Course Description: The new college-level social studies course provides students with the opportunity to identify and analyze contemporary concerns and problems from local, national, and global perspectives in Human Geography. Using geographical tools and skills, we will explore issues such as population distribution and composition, cultural patterns and processes, political organization, land use, industrialization and economic development, and urbanization. The AP Human Geography student will take the World Geography Standards of Learning test (SOL) and is eligible to take the AP Human Geography exam. Attendance is

Students may ask for a pass to come ask questions, work on assignments, get extra help, etc. during his/her A-day lunch time.

The AP Exam

The College Board Advanced Placement program offers high school students the opportunity to earn potential college credit by scoring well on exams offered each May. One of the goals of our course is to help prepare interested students for the Advanced Placement Human Geography Exam to be administered on May 13, 2011.

Course Requirements/ Grading Policy:
Students are responsible to maintain and complete all required assignments: 25% homework/ classwork 25% quizzes 25% maps/ projects 25% tests

The following grading scale will be followed: 90-100 A Excellent 80-89 B Above Average 70-79 C Average 60-69 D Below Average Below 60 F Failing

Classroom Policies/ Procedures: ▪ SCORE and PASS are available online at anytime to check grades, assignments, and deadlines. ▪ Students are expected to come to class on time. Unexcused absences and tardies are not tolerated. Making-up missed classes are the STUDENT’S responsibility.
