If you cannot (or do not) take this assessment at the scheduled time, you need to see Mr. Alper (in room 415) as soon as possible to make arrangements to take the assessment at an alternate time.

Your admittance to this course will be based on this writing assessment and your performance and conduct in your previous English classes, particularly your current one, which will be determined by your teacher’s recommendation (relative to other students) in addition to your grade.

Please be aware that the AP English Language course entails far more reading, debating, discussion, and writing than any previous English class you have taken, along with composing in several forms (e.g., narrative, expository, analytical, and argumentative essays) on a variety of subjects. If you find any of these aspects of the course unappealing and something you envision being unhappy about, this is probably not the right course for you.

You will be given a summer assignment to be completed before school resumes in

When I first came to college, I was scared to take a college level English class. In high school, I slacked off all of my English classes due to the fact that all teachers taught pointless lessons. In addition, students would get A’s or B’s for the words that are on paper rather than the critical analyzes. Lang 120 is the first English class to step away from my passive writing and challenge myself more on critical analyzes and the stages of writing. In my Lang 120 class with Professor Pisano, I learned how to connect information together, how to actively gather sources, and effectively communicate with an audience.…

Final portfolio I didn’t score high enough in my SAT exam so I was put in this class automatically; quickly after this course began I could already see an improvement in my writing. Being brought up in Ireland I knew that the transition between English there and English in America would have been a lot different. The way our education system works is a lot different from here meaning that I haven’t actually studied any form of English in the past three years, I knew this semester would be a completely new learning experience for me. The last time I studied English was at a grammar school in the town which I was brought up in.…

Did you ever think that English would be easy wherever you go? Unfortunately, that is what I thought even though I knew it would be a little challenging. As I got into college it all changed. Writer’s Workshop in College taught me the difference between what High School English and what college is like, particularly when it comes to the organization of the class, the class atmosphere and how the teacher manages a classroom. One way that writer’s workshop is different is the organization of the class.…

Looking back at my high school English courses, I have reminisced on some of the challenges I have encountered. I took honors English each year with the exception of my junior year where I took on the challenge of taking AP Composition and Language. During my AP class we focused on writing argumentative essays and two other types of writing. The other three years, we wrote one to two page essays on a reflection of novels that we read during the year. If we met the basic criteria (introduction, three body paragraphs, conclusion and stayed on topic) then we would mainly get an A. I would say that a few of my strengths in reading would be annotating and note taking as I read the text or novel.…

Advance Punishment Exam (An analysis of the advanced placement english literature exam) Why should anyone care what’s on the AP exam? Well, unfortunately a bunch of high and mighty universities love to use test scores to value human beings, but can you really blame them they have a lot of worthless individuals to look through. It’s much easier to just categorize people by their score on an exam of which they approve. For the most part, it’s important to know what’s on the AP exam if you plan on attending a university and would like a reduction in the cost of college because knowing how the test is structured will likely increase your score. What is the AP exam though?…
