Our actions are direct effects of the world surrounding us, causing every choice I now make to direct, and redirected by many of the recent things we have learned. From grammar rules to discussion points, and the words of our various authors, I have gained new perspective because each lesson has taught me something new, and often it was about myself even more so than the assignment.…

Dear. Mrs. Kreider, I am so excited to be in your class this year! I have always loved to read and analyze literature, and I know this year will be no different. I have taken Pre AP or AP English every year it has been available to me, and I decided to take AP Lit to continue the same high level of English discussion and analysis I have enjoyed each year of high school. Along with expecting to delve deep into the discussion of various books, plays, and poems, I also expect that this year, in AP English 12, we will discuss the differences between last years AP Language exam and this year's AP Literature exam and get plenty of practice with both AP multiple choice and the three free response question styles.…

From the moment high school students commit to their future colleges everything changes. They are no longer thought of as high school seniors or people apart of their hometown communities, they are thought in the light of the new institutions they will attend in the fall. Peers, teachers, and community members will now rank them with the same ranking their new school has. A select group of students, the excellents, will end up at elite schools like Harvard, Yale and Princeton to name a few. From the beginning of the these excellent students’ lives they have been earning elite education, defined as “prestigious institutions like Harvard or Stanford or Williams as well as the larger universe of second-tier selective school, but I [Deresiewicz] also mean everything that leads up to and away from them” (Deresiewicz 2).…

The concept of Newspeak frightens me the most. I consider Newspeak the most frightening of all the technological advancements in 1984 because the vocabulary gets smaller each year (52). I value vocabulary because words are a way to express yourself which I often take for granted, but find very useful. Words are the most effective way to express what I think or feel and if vocabulary shrinks then I wouldn’t be able to express myself which is why I find Newspeak frightening. The limitations Newspeak puts on people makes them unaware of their emotions, because they have no way to express them or describe how they feel.…

Love means doing what's best for the other person, no matter what it means for you.” Perhaps without realizing it, she stated the message that Shakespeare wished for us to grasp in his comedy, The Twelfth Night. In a day and age when marriages can last for seventy two days and some individuals consider a casual night together to be romantic, it can be hard to discern what the differences between lust driven passion and patient love are.…

When I go back and think about all the things I have done this year, I am still amazed at all we did. Some of the things that the year could be divided into would be: the class, individual effort, and my advice for next year’s seniors.
