Last week, as I was strolling past a middle school, I saw a teacher sitting down next to a student. The teacher was giving advice to the student. The image of the teacher helping the student reminded me of when my English teacher would help me with my assignments. I enrolled in Advanced Placement English Language and Composition in my junior year at Grant High School. AP English was rumored to be a very tenacious class and the teacher, Ms. Warfield, was known for giving perplexing reading articles for homework. In addition, the class articles were vigorous. Ms. Warfield taught me how to use highlighters and margin notes and this technique has made me a better writer and reader overall.

Warfield. She revealed to me that highlighting and margin notes could tremendously improve my writing. This skill has been with me ever since that day two years ago. I was able to understand what I read. By highlighting, I was able to understand the main points of the article. It has made me the literary person I am today.
Timed writes require personnel thinking and opinion. Race and social justice plays a very big part on the way I think concerning specific issues. Issues such as school shootings, police brutality, and the cruel treatment of different races plays a tremendous role in the way I write. As a result, it gives my writing a biased opinion and defines me through literature.
In conclusion, with the new skill of using a highlighter and taking margin notes, I was able to become the literary writer that I am today. I changed my mindset concerning literature and became an improved writer overall. Change impacted me dramatically. In a bigger picture, the ideas that we hold on too can be dangerous to a certain extent. Change can lead to more positive thinking on issues. Race and Social Justice can be an area where we should change our thinking. A new way of thinking can stop the stereotypical image of a nation, culture, or

During this semester of English W131, I have experienced both accomplishments and setbacks while learning how to improve my writing skills. Throughout the course, I have learned that writing is not only about how much information is in the paper, but also about how well the writer’s thoughts are expressed throughout the text. Practicing many different styles of writing as I did in the class has helped me tremendously with my delivery in my writing. I believe that this course was one to prepare us for future writing courses with professors we will encounter who will give us feedback that may puzzle us because it will require more work and more thinking. Although I have had difficulty in the class, I do believe that I have learned from my mistakes and that I am finishing the course with stronger writing skills that will help me though the rest of my college career and life.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

The experience gained through this field experience was very positive and gratifying. The first couple of sessions were like the ground periods, I had to get familiar with Hidden Oaks Elementary School and their ESOL program as well as to meet the team of teachers and their students. I will hope to capture in this reflection the knowledge obtained, the positive aspects, and outcomes of this valuable practice. From the very beginning I felt very comfortable with both teachers and the students’.…

Although my history as a writer is not very long, considering i am only fifteen, I believe it has definitely impacted the way I perceive writing and literature. The main pieces that stuck out to me are a creative writing assignment in first grade, a research paper in fourth grade, a creative writing assignment again in fourth grade, and personal writing piece I wrote in fourth grade, and a biography I wrote in 9th grade. Whether these pieces negatively or positively affected me I think they definitely affected the way I look at writing. The first writing piece I remember, that I liked, was in the first grade.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

It is amazing how correct grammar, punctuation and sentence usage can improve a paper; now I look back on the papers I wrote at the beginning of this year and I am amazed at how far I have come. These grammar skills are something that I know I will use forever; I may even laminate my “HOW TO USE COMMAS—basic rules” to use for the rest of my life! I feel that the “paper workshops” as well as all of the practice we did on sentence types, paraphrasing and MLA formatting have improved my performance significantly throughout the semester. I am more confident in my writing and I have found that I am beginning to enjoy writing—something I thought I would never say. I am beginning to care more about my writing now that I see how the things I write may actually make a difference in the world later on.…
