One example where her use of this function is apparent is her chosen tone of voice while quoting Kristin Armstrong. The change in pace and given tone enhances the overall effectiveness of her attention grabbing quote.

2. I appreciate Annette's rate throughout her speech as she maintains an upbeat rhythm. It is easy to get lost while someone is speaking if they do not take pace into consideration; however, she clearly keeps it slightly quicker ensuring that she is in control of the audiences attention. It is similar to Cuddy's pace in that they both accentuate parts of the their speech by either slowing down or speeding up when necessary.

Hello Dr. Williams, Thank you for responding to my e-mail, and yes I had to reach out to you when I realize the mistake. The assignment was totally demolished and I am here working on it. Despite the stumbling blocks that I have continuously attempting to overcome; giving up was never on my mind. The questions that you asked on that APA paper, along with the how you wanted the class to present the assignment to you was all foreign to me. However, I am still curious as to what came across your mind as you read the assignment.…

Dear. Mrs. Kreider, I am so excited to be in your class this year! I have always loved to read and analyze literature, and I know this year will be no different. I have taken Pre AP or AP English every year it has been available to me, and I decided to take AP Lit to continue the same high level of English discussion and analysis I have enjoyed each year of high school. Along with expecting to delve deep into the discussion of various books, plays, and poems, I also expect that this year, in AP English 12, we will discuss the differences between last years AP Language exam and this year's AP Literature exam and get plenty of practice with both AP multiple choice and the three free response question styles.…

I enjoyed listening the five different interpretations of Lincoln’s speech, but my favorite interpretation of the speech was the speech by John Getty because the his voice, mood, and his appearance stood out from the other speeches. The speakers of the other speeches spoke in a low-pitched voice, in contrast, Getty’s voice is higher pitched, with and fluctuated throughout the speech to express emotion. Unlike the other speeches, which were delivered in a dull, and solemn tone, Getty’s tone and attitude is determined and optimistic. When he first approaches the podium, he smiles and even lightly waves to the audience.…

Her word choice was carefully picked, precise and clean. Her tone was a calm yet persistent one where one could see how subtle but also determined she was on her work. She would pause just enough to make a clean speech, she didn’t hurry off or seemed nervous in any way which only interested the audience into paying attention to her. However, one may think that she would have an even more effective speech if she would of played with her voice a little more or do some sort of hand gestures. If she would have changed her voice into a stronger one she maybe could have expressed some strong feeling that wasn’t empathy or remorse.…
