This semester, I enrolled in Early Childhood Education 350 (ECE) at Consumes River College, which transfers over to Sacramento State as Child Development 35F. ECE 350 is a course that incorporates lecture and fielded experience at a school site. I was a student volunteer at John Reith Elementary school for an AM and PM kindergarten class. Ms. Moua is the morning instructor, and this is her first year at John Reith and Ms. Din is the afternoon instructor and is a veteran at John Reith. John Reith is a titled one school, meaning the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The school is gated and the only way to enter is through the office, which protects the staff and students from any intruders.…
It was February 2015, my class test for AP Calculus. I was struggling with my 2nd problem (out of 6) and half of my time had passed by. Looking at the next question, I groaned. I couldn’t remember how to compute the 2nd derivative of a function. That was when I realized how much I was struggling with the free response sections of the AP Calculus test, I took it into my own hands to study so I can achieve a 5.My teacher had told me that a 4 was sufficient but I aspired to achieve a 5 because that was my goal.…
This year I started high school, which was scary at first. Because Bayshore splits a lot of my friends went to south. I had to make new friends, figure out how to get to my classes, and have a lot more schoolwork. I was so worried about going to school I wasn't as focused on my school work. My mom saw that this was hard for me and sat me down.…
My grades began to slip and I became even less confident in myself then i was the year before. I started to hide myself in sweatshirts every day and stayed home a lot on the weekends. I knew this was not a good road I was on and that I needed to start thinking differently. I needed to be more positive about myself, my school, and my social life.…
Due to the symptoms, or should I say my inability to cope with the symptoms, Freshman and Sophomore year were difficult for me. Which unfortunately reflected in my grades. I allowed myself to be the victim of the cards I was dealt in this life instead of making some cool disappearing card trick or something out of them. I felt since I was active in so many things, I was a good person. Little did I realize that it is not the quantity of activities a person participates in, but the quality in which those activities are…
For my final portfolio, I chose to revise a shorter essay, “Potential Ramifications of a Trump Presidency,” and a longer essay, “Assignment 7: Finding Place Research Project.” I chose these two essays specifically because of their differences. The former is shorter, more informal, and includes more of my thoughts and opinions. The latter is a longer research paper, and thus is more formal and less biased as I attempted to give a brief history of gentrification and its impacts on East Liberty.…
Final Reflection Assignment ACA 122 course has been an eye opener for me to say the least. I went in not knowing how much information and documents are required for college transfer. Upon completion I can say that this course has helped me acquire all the information needed in preparation to transfer to a four-year university. This course has taught me the knowledge that I need to strive through my educational journey such as the test-taking strategies, reading strategies and the note taking strategies which I find to be very useful. I have also discovered some strengths and weakness that I have regarding my studying skills and I have been working to improve the weaknesses.…
I, Hannah Adebayo feel like I’d fit into Senator O’Connor’s AP program. I am an active participant. Also, I always have something to say in class. My teachers have commented about how they value my views in class. I’m always thinking outside of the box and while answering questions, my thoughts are expressed.…
When I was in fourth grade, I got really sick and missed a week of school. When I returned, there were many tests and makeup work I had to do. My grades had gone down a lot since I missed so much. My grade in math was a D+ because of a test and other work I had missed. I really only cared about the work and getting my grade up.…
Over my lifetime I have overcome a series of obstacles. Theses obstacles have made me become the person I am today. One challenge I overcame was when I came to the United States. Another was when I was in sixth grade. Another example would be when I had to move to New Mexico.…
With the use of careful planning, dedication, and patience I will achieve my ideal goal for the current semester of ending the course with an A and passing the AP exam with a 4 or a…
Despite the fact that I have faced challenges with the subject as of late, I would consider English to be one of my favorites. During my junior year, I was enrolled in AP English Language and Composition, and although it was the only class I did not receive an A grade in, it, without a doubt, altered how I perceive the world. English did not only improve my writing and analytical skills, but it also prepared me for life beyond my education. Being an AP class, the curriculum was designed to help me get the best score that I could on the AP test. Almost every class period, a discussion would be held regarding a specific topic, typically related to the unit we were focusing on at the time.…
My freshmen year of Highschool was one of the worst experiences of my life. I started freshman year of highschool with a low gpa of a 2.62. I was not at all happy with this GPA and I needed to change that. During my freshmen year, I was scared to ask questions to my teachers and to my classmates. I knew that was unacceptable of fear taking over my grades.…
Written language is a trait known to be only possessed by mankind. Although other species may have audible forms of communication, man is able to record and document his thoughts, feelings, or events that have unfolded in a way that can be viewed multiple times without him having to use his voice over and over. Literacy is a skill that adults in the United States are expected to have; but the level of your literacy says a lot about you and can have a tremendous impact on what career you end up in. For this reason, this college English class is a requirement for all those seeking a degree. Not only did I learn how to think of subjects and topics more objectively, but I learned a multitude of different modes and strategies I can employ in my writing.…
My last year of high school was very difficult for me. During that year, I lost a lot of important people in my family and I fell into a slump. I had depression and had to miss many of my classes in order to help out my mother and father. I realized that I was very close to failing my classes and I realized I needed to get back on track.…
