Actually, I am still in the most challenging academic course I have taken to date, AP United States History (APUSH). APUSH has been difficult for me due to the fact that I had very little knowledge of US history preceding my enrollment in the class. Furthermore, prior to this class I had never really had to study extensively to maintain high marks. APUSH has been different. Having little knowledge of this material, I have had to spend much more time studying.…
These have been such memorable years to me that I will never forget as I grow. I wouldn’t change my experience for anything because I’ve learned and grown so much in the few years I’ve been in high school. In the beginning I thought high school wasn’t an important part of my life. I was just focused on football and goofing off.…
It seems like a decade ago that we began our time with Mr. McGee in Room 303. As we first took our spots next to our peers and friends, we were all filled with a sense of apprehension about what was to come. We had all heard the horror stories about the hours and hours of homework required to earn a passing grade in this class. Our teacher was hailed a legend in our small rural high school and he was well liked and respected. He also had a reputation for being incredibly smart and pushing his students beyond what they had previously known.…
High school came to an end May 15 for me, and I believed college wouldn't be much different, but I wasn't entirely correct. Many things changed which I had to accustom myself to, from living on my own, to making sure I ate correctly, but little did I know that I would have to change my study habits. For as long as I can recall, I have been using the same study habits throughout high school. I believed and was taught to memorize, but I also realized that even though I would pass my test with flying colors, I would find myself forgetting a majority of what I had memorized a month and or a week ago. Now that I am aware that the technique used in high school, will no longer apply in my college years, and years to come.…
In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…
During the time of my years that I have lived, I have not faced any challenges that were harder academically than taking AP classes. Throughout my years I have faced challenges like riding a bike, walking on my own two feet, or driving a car, but nothing like taking your first AP classes in the senior year. Throughout high school, I kept it out of the way that I would ever take honors or AP classes, but here I am now taking my first AP classes. As now being in the middle of the first 6 week grading period, I have overcome the challenge by doing better on focusing a lot more on school work and not procrastinate and also giving up on certain things like not spending too much time on games lower all the fun activities at a minimum which benefited…
magine going from kindergarten to your sophomore year in high school with good enough grades and you had a better than average grade point average that you could graduate with. You also started planning and saving for college, with the help of your parents. There is just one thing, you are not the best when it comes to testing. You have somehow managed to make your way through the few years you have been in high school by doing exceptionally well on the projects you were given each semester which balanced out your in-class poor test scores. I Unfortunately, there are a few vital standardized tests that are coming up very soon that will either push you forward towards graduating, that will help you when it comes to furthering your education or hold you back from being able to graduate high school.…
My experiences in P-12 with diverse student populations range from helping students who are dealing with severe issues of poverty when I was a part of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program at my local Friendly House, to also dealing with students who were on IEPs for dyslexia, ADHD, ADD, Autism, and mood disorders, such as, depression and anxiety while in my FEEP program. I also had students while in my FEEP program who had behavioral issues and had to be placed on behavioral plans. What I learned from my experiences is that it is important to treat every student equally. To never listen to “Oh, they are the bad kid” because sometimes all students need is someone to believe in them and give them a new start. All of these students were capable…
Additionally, I have excelled in English and is continuing to excel. Leading up to my first ACT day in 11th grade i was taking ACT prep classes but because the scholars weren’t all ont he same page we had to learn from where they were. It was below the level i was on even if mine was at a 6th grade education. These classes were very easy from 9th to 10th and because it was so easy i wasn’t studying to make sure i knew the material 100%. My stubborness was a factor that contributed to the 14 i had gotten the first time i took the ACT in the English Section.…
Over the course of this year, I’ve learned a lot about the english language and writing as well as myself. I’ve found that, though I’m fairly fair minded and autonomous, I often have trouble persevering when things get hard or my ideas aren’t understood. Much like how they affect the three miles in a 5k cross country race, these intellectual virtues and weaknesses dictated how I performed in AP Comp this year. Mile one of a race is usually an adrenaline filled blur, where you try to keep your balance amongst a sea of running girls while grabbing a favorable spot on the course without sacrificing your energy for the last two miles.…
Having mandatory testing in high school can cause trouble, for students who are trying to get their high school diploma. However, I have never had any concerns about mandatory testing during my past high school years, in fact I feel like it pressured me to learn what I needed to learn. Necessary testing also helped me acknowledge my learning level, and it kept an organized agenda of what we should learn in class. The testing environment did not concern me either, to be honest it helped me concentrated and it kept me on task. The pressure of state testing benefited me because the thought of having a final test at the end of the year that made want to learn the material instead of just sitting in the classroom occupying a seat.…
I was reviewing my grades and I saw that I did not have any points for attending to the AITP meeting. I do think there might be a mistake. I swipe my appacard twice, when I got in, and when I left. I did eat pizza and even got a pen and a annual planner from amazon. The guys from Amazon gave some prizes also.…
Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…
C.S. Lewis has had a profound impact on my heart, mind and soul. I was first introduced to this great Christian thinker the fall of my junior year in high school. I decided to join an honors English course that focused on analyzing, discussing and writing about the 20th century group of writers known as the Inklings. To be fair, this type of course was not my forte.…
My last year of high school was very difficult for me. During that year, I lost a lot of important people in my family and I fell into a slump. I had depression and had to miss many of my classes in order to help out my mother and father. I realized that I was very close to failing my classes and I realized I needed to get back on track.…
