I got a 3 inch grouping on the targeted and ripped it up. We then went back to the classroom and took the final test. It was a 16 page test and we had 5 hours to finish it. I don't remember a lot of the stuff on it and had to guess with most of the questions. So at the end of it when i finished i turned it into the instructor.…
Back then I rarely studied anything in my class because I had a pretty robust memory and could just remember what I wrote in my notes or what was said in class and for anything that was challenging to me, that’s the only time where I might have used the interleaved practice strategy where I space out something very challenging that loomed over my head coming up before the exam. I learned about all of the helpful strategies such as practice testing in history class when my teacher gave us a quiz every other day, which while being annoying, was surprisingly helpful to…
During the second test I had the same four questions at the beginning as the other test; these were questions, that I didn’t understand. I finished all the questions and went back and thought hard about those questions. They we’re so tricky. Then finally it clicked and I understood what it was all about…
I never thought that I would be sitting on top of a washing machine waiting for my clothes to dry while at the same time, writing a shitty first draft essay. It’s amazing where education can take you. In my first semester of composition, I read “Brainology” by Carol S. Dweck and “The Student Fear Factor” by Rebecca Cox. In Brainology, Dweck explains that there are two different mindsets: a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. A growth mindset is when a person has a mindset that intelligence can learn their mistakes.…
My ability to write essays and research papers in the proper format and structure supports my claim that I am an average writer. Through my experience in AP Language, as well as AP Literature, I was taught how to construct essays utilizing rhetorical techniques, argumentative essays, and research papers. Writing a minimum of two essays per week allowed me to practice the craft of writing and ensure that when i am constructing an essay it is executed properly in structure. The ability to compose these varying types of papers show that I am an average writer. Being able to write and express complete ideas is a major part of writing.…
The experience gained through this field experience was very positive and gratifying. The first couple of sessions were like the ground periods, I had to get familiar with Hidden Oaks Elementary School and their ESOL program as well as to meet the team of teachers and their students. I will hope to capture in this reflection the knowledge obtained, the positive aspects, and outcomes of this valuable practice. From the very beginning I felt very comfortable with both teachers and the students’.…
This is my best work for Liberal Arts Mathematics. Though this class may be a review of every math course I have taken in high school thus far, it is rather challenging. I have discovered new information and ideas that I have never learned before. Those new ideas have been very difficult at times, especially in this unit. I set aside an entire week to study for this test, I reviewed every concept, every quiz, every assignment, etc..…
Wendy Kopp once said “Our teachers are operating just as effective leaders in the business world do. They set a vision that most people think is crazy. They convince the kids why it's important to accomplish the goal. And they are totally relentless.” It is because I have had many teachers push and challenge me to do my best that the business world is in my line of sight.…
I would like to outline my appreciation to you for teaching our AP Language class. You really do make the English class enjoyable and meaningful. I believe that my writing of critical analysis will be much better by the end of the year. I write to apologize for my irresponsibility regarding the Summer Homework. I am sorry that I haven't been really on top of my assignment that was due months ago.…
As I reflect back to the learning that I’ve gained thus far in English 5A I realized how broad English truly is, there is way more than I imagined to learn. As I started the semester, my first essay wasn’t the best, as I continued in English 5A I learned different ways on how to approach an academic essay with a better outcome. I acquired that a well written essay is structured properly by identifying the conversation about a topic.…
Last week, as I was strolling past a middle school, I saw a teacher sitting down next to a student. The teacher was giving advice to the student. The image of the teacher helping the student reminded me of when my English teacher would help me with my assignments. I enrolled in Advanced Placement English Language and Composition in my junior year at Grant High School. AP English was rumored to be a very tenacious class and the teacher, Ms. Warfield, was known for giving perplexing reading articles for homework.…
I can work on transitions between topics and resources, as well as phrasing questions. Although, some of this will improve with practice, some may easier depending on how the conversation flows. During the assessment, I feel like I…
Taking AP classes usually require numerous amount of work. However, the AP Language course has made available to me an intriguing experience. As my journey in the class continues, I realize several misconceptions about our popularly spoken language, and various interesting facts as well. To close the gap between my experiences and the manner by which these experiences are expressed, the word “wahala” will be utilized. Wahala is a fabricated word by me, with a meaning that comes from my own heart, my mind, my logic and my personal experience.…
My initial reaction to the study skills assessment I took online was shocked. I agree with my results. I found out that I have relatively good skills in time management. I still need to develop more effective and efficient ways to prioritize and use my time. For concentration/memory I need to develop more effective approaches and strategies to concentrating on and remembering what to study.…
Part 1: What experiences – personal, professional, and/or educational – have shaped your motivation to pursue a teaching career in an urban district, and to teach the specific content/grade level to which you applied? Part 2: What is something specific to the content/grade level to which you applied that you believe is worthwhile for students to learn, and why? How might you engage students in the teaching and learning of this knowledge or skill?…
