Ap Calculus Challenges

One challenge I've experienced during my pursuit in engineering and my education as a whole has been AP Calculus AB. Considering I've had high grades in previous maths, I assumed that calculus would not be a problem. However, those previous classes could not have given me a sense of what a college level math class would be like, which I learned very quickly. Calculus has been a surprising taste of what college learning is like. I now know that much of the learning is going to be one's own responsibility. Furthermore, it’s important that you communicate with your teachers to be able to get the most out of the class you are taking. I have also learned much about the work amount to expect in college as well. Overall, it has been a reality check and a bit of a challenge to grasp the concept of. …show more content…
Previously, I had always been nervous about asking questions as to not seem unintelligent. I now know that it is the exact opposite and that asking questions is essential to my own understanding of a subject, especially when it comes to math. I've also learned that there is no shame in staying after class or coming in at a different time to talk to your instructor about the content of the previous class period. If anything, it helps reiterate the important points and information that will be valuable for your assignments. Not only that, but talking with your instructor can also help one understand content and clear up any confusion on specific language or topics. Lastly, I've learned that the best thing I can do as a student is keep myself on track. One of my favorite sayings relates directly to that mentality, “The only thing between you and your goals is

Reflecting back, I still can't believe how far I have come in terms of my studying habits and education. I have a great support system, and people that believe in me, which I can never leave unnoticed to my personal success. I also know there is still plenty of work to be done. My advice to myself and all students is quite simple. Stay hungry in whatever field you choose, and never assume something will just be given to you, go out and earn…

Typically, ‘left-brained’ people look at the analytic side. ‘Right-brained’ people explore a more imaginative side. Senior Erin Doran is the result of the harmonious mix of both. “I guess it’s sort of like a paradox- the way that I’m more of a logical thinker but I also do these creative things,” Erin said. The logical and analytical ‘left brain’ side of Erin is expressed in math.…

It was February 2015, my class test for AP Calculus. I was struggling with my 2nd problem (out of 6) and half of my time had passed by. Looking at the next question, I groaned. I couldn’t remember how to compute the 2nd derivative of a function. That was when I realized how much I was struggling with the free response sections of the AP Calculus test, I took it into my own hands to study so I can achieve a 5.My teacher had told me that a 4 was sufficient but I aspired to achieve a 5 because that was my goal.…

AP Chemistry has made me realize that you need to work hard for the things you want. AP Chemistry is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. It was full of hard concepts and ideas that I could not seem to understand. Most times, I stayed up studying for tests until three in the morning. My teacher had tests that were based on past AP exams and in order to reach the highest score, a five, you usually needed to get a minimum percentage of seventy percent.…

Not everyone who attends college are successful at completing the courses needed to graduate. For many reasons, college students are forced to drop out willingly, are withdrawn by administration, or simply lose interest in furthering their education. However, the college students who complete college successfully and make it to graduation share some habits that make the odds of being successful work in their favor. Many college students succeed because they make it a priority to attend and involve themselves in class sessions regularly, take control of their education, and nurture relationships with the instructors on their school campus. One of the most important causes of being a successful college student is actually attending class sessions regularly.…

    1. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity about medicine and medical literature During my brief time in medical school, I have found that my desire to learn has only increased. In my head, the human body is a map with things I know well lit-up brightly, and the other dim places flickering in to place as I progress through my courses. The assigned readings are kind of a necessary evil in some cases in that they are not very exciting, but they build that base knowledge for the supplemental material of each class to build upon. I am not one to ask questions often during the lecture because I like to see if my questions will be answered before the end of the lecture.…

I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…
