1. Why do you suppose public speaking is considered the number one fear most of us possess? How: When we give a public talk we are trying to achieve several goals; (1) influence others, and (2) maintain our sense of self. We concluded through personal experience, most of us fear public speaking because of fear of rejection.…
I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

As a stickler, I have dependably been pushed to make everything impeccable, whether its my evaluations or looks. The anxiety to be impeccable never abandons me. Consequently, at whatever point I feel focused on I tend to have "stress responses" taking into account the anxiety level. My body responds to push physically, rationally, sincerely and socially. In this paper I would expound on my methods for adapting to the greater part of the anxiety responses that face me.…
When it comes to speaking in front of people, I get nervous. Whether there are a few people in the room or a huge auditorium full of people. It has been an obstacle for me throughout my life. From show and tell in 3rd grade to big projects in high school, I always became flustered. I’ve always been scared of not being good enough, until one day I decided to make some changes.…
The results of my PRCA-24 were a little surprising but in a good way. I got an 84 which was much higher than I thought it was going to be which I guess reflects on the fact that maybe I don 't give myself as much credit as I should when thinking about my public speaking ability. One of the things the test made me realize is that i’m more nervous in regular life than I am nervous when public speaking, because I thought about the questions if they referred to the circumstances of everyday life. I guess that’s the benefit and downside to being a performer. Watching the video was a little bit strange for me because I’m always perceiving myself differently when I’m up there, which is partly a perspective switch but also sometimes it’s also focusing…
Speech Anxiety A time I had experienced speech anxiety was the first time I had to give my senior project speech in front of my peers. The night before my speech I had stayed up all night writing my speech and that morning I finished my power point. Writing the speech at the last minute was not the best idea, but I was fine because my speech was about something I had passion for at the time. Decorating the power point was not all that bad either.…
The monologue that I wrote and performed was inspired by two different poems both possessing the theme of anxiety. The first poem was by Patrick Roche The Perfect Panic Attack and the second Social Anxiety Disorder by Sabrina Leira. In the first poem Patrick goes through instructions on how to have the perfect panic attack and recounts different features that would be included when someone does have a panic attack. ‘Find a trigger.…

Overall Speech 101 was a great class for me, i was able to improve my ability to speak in front of a class and gain what it takes to be a great speaker. One thing that really helped me was looking back at my speech videos. At first i was really shy and thought that looking at myself speak would be embracing but it really helped me out. After every speech i would look back at my film and see the areas i can improve on. Yes indeed looking at my speech’s really helped me out especially on my final persuasive speech, at first i lacked confidence but as the speeches went on and i looked back i noticed the big difference in confidence.…
Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…
Being asked to write a eulogy for a loved one who’s passed can seem completely overwhelming. The feelings that are triggered by the death of someone close rids the mind of any real clarity and makes collecting and sharing our thoughts and memories challenging, to say the very least. While the task seems daunting, there are steps you can take to ensure you give a memorable and fitting tribute. Recognize the Honor…
Stress. Stress creeps into all parts of our lives when we let it. We can even be stressed when we're happy. But when we're sad, stress seems magnified like our lives are moving in slides on the big screen.…
You are walking home and you see someone talking loudly to themself. In this day and age, you’re first thought will probably be that they’re talking on the phone or through an earpiece. You take a closer look and realize that they aren’t; they are talking to themself and clearly look upset. What do you do? Do you walk up to the person and ask if they need help?…
I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
