Background Jason is an 11 year old Caucasian male who resides with his mother, stepfather and two step siblings. Jason is in the sixth grade and has been approved for Special Education the past four years of his schooling. He has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety by a licensed pediatrician and psychologist. In the past, Jason has become violent in the classroom. The medical team spoke with Jason, at length, about how his body reacts, in social situations. Jason has stated that his body feels “tingly” and his stomach feels “in knots”, when called upon in class. When asked if he felt that he can hurt himself, he stated, “Yes, I feel like I can kill myself when I get sad.” The medical team pushed a little further and asked what makes him sad. Jason’s response was “I don’t know. I get sad a lot.”
While assessing Jason’s behaviors, the medical team inquired about Jason’s biological father’s (who is no longer involved with Jason) mental state. The mother did not know the full extent of it, but informed them that his father was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and depression. The mother revealed that the maternal side of the family has a history of anxiety and depression, as well.
Biological Factors (Walsh, 2009): Jason’s physical appearance appears to be average for his age group. He is on the tall side for height (5 feet, 2 inches). He weighs 117 pounds but does not appear to be unhealthy. His fine motor skills, such as shoe lacing, seem to be slightly delayed. Gross motor skills, such as running, are average for age

    4. Well Euripides does not state why Jason starts to actually care for him but I have an idea why. He was not too worried because he believed that they would be taken care of by their mother and later by him when he states on lines 668-672, “ I want to raise them in the proper way, one worthy of my house, to have brothers for the children born from you, and make them 670 all the same.…

I would give Jason the diagnosis of having autism. From what is described by his behavior, he matches a lot of DSM-V criteria for having the diagnosis of autism. When talking to the school psychologist, he did not make eye contact, demonstrating the impairment of using eye contact during social situations. His school psychologist also noted that Jason also did not appropriately respond to social cues nor was interested to building a relationship with her. This further demonstrates that Jason meets the criteria of autism regarding understanding social situations and building relationships with others.…
