When we are anxious, we feel nervous, worried and fearful. We struggle, tremble, perspire and our hearts would beat quickly. In general, anxiety can be defined as a complex concept dependent upon not only on one’s feeling of self-efficacy but also appraisals concerning the potential and perceived threats inherent in certain situations (Tobias, 1986). Anxiety in communicating in second language, especially when that language is English can effect and influence students’ adaptation to the target environment and ultimately their educational goals. There is also agreement that anxiety is related to performance and that anxiety has been shown to have a debilitating effect on learning and achievement of the students. But, what are the causes of anxiety that hinder students from speaking a particular language? Actually, there are various causes of anxiety. According to the previous research, there are ten top causes for anxiety in public speaking. Among them are;

One of them is motivate students to speak in class rather than using their native language. Those students who are having speaking anxiety should attend courses aimed to overcome the fear of speaking. For example, one of the activities that have received the best response is ‘three step model exercises’ where people get to practice their speech. The teacher leads the activities and later chooses pair for the students. Secondly, they would share their experience in group about their feeling when they talk in front of the others. This creates a friendly and motivate situation for the participants. The third part is about practicing oral performance where the students get to describe objects or emotions in front of the group.
