Antonia Character Analysis

In my own opinion I would believe Antonia would, but also would not agree with this. She is a very stubborn person who see’s that happiness is beauty in itself, while being a good thing, but I don’t think she would describe it the same way Jim does. She is much more stern than he is in the book, or at least, I believed her to be. While Jim is kind and a sort-of playful spirt, he likes to see the good in all things, and people. He knows their can be happiness is everyone, they just have to find it on their own. Throughout the story, learning about him, I began to think of him as like a hopeful young kid, understanding he isn’t, but just his outlook on life is so happy and pure it is almost child-like. Its a nice way to see a character in a book as kind as Jim, I wish everyone could see the happiness in life as he does. As generous as Antonia is too, I think she would agree with Jim, but is her own way, if that make sense. She has natural optimism, and a unbelievably nice personality, She almost fascinates Jim and the other characters through the book. Its always nice to read about how people can …show more content…
Now, being more thorough, It was probably her Intelligence, how loyal she was, and her kindhearted personality. She was always a good person, inside and out, she was a beautiful person. Dealing with her fathers passing, she was forced to have to live to accept that things happen, but you must look at the positives. She was always putting everyone in a better mood, especially Jim. She just knew how to do so. she understood how to lighten up a upset mood. She knew how to make everyone laugh. She always went through the hardest tasks, but came out stronger. She would not ever let things get her down. She was persevere through out the book. Even I admired her outlook on life. She had many friends whom she was loyal to, and a bubbling personality that could warm a strangers heart. So of course Cather would admire

Additionally, education was very important to him, especially for Ántonia. As evidence, “He placed this book in my grandmother’s hands, looked at her entreatingly, and said, with an earnestness I shall never forget, ‘Te-e-ach, te-e-ach my Án-tonia!”(1.3.16). She was strong and loyal to her friend and her family (despite what had happened to her while she was with her mother). I think one of the things I loved the most about her was how realistic her grief was. Sure, there was hate towards her mother for doing what she did – but it never took over and she still felt grief. She reminded me of a trapped dog, sweet and cuddly to those who showed her kindness but a rabid animal to those with opposite intentions. She does some pretty silly things though, dumb and completely idiotic things, but it didn’t take away from her character as a whole.…

Later in the book, Jim gets jealous as he thinks that Antonia has feelings for Charley while Antonia gets mad when Jim and Lena flirt. However it’s hard to tell whether Antonia is jealous or is protective of her friend. Antonia does not unveil her feelings, this character intrigues Cather since it keeps the readers on their toes asking questions, making the reading fun. Ántonia’s spirit made an impact on Jim, causing him to return to visit her as an adult. “I told Ántonia I would come back, but life intervened, and it was twenty years before I kept my promise” (My Ántonia 175). Life is personified to intervene, and given as a reason for why Jim was unable to return and visit Ántonia. Ántonia was so important to Jim because of her success, that he made a point of returning to visit her. “Not only the progenitor of a large, vigorous family, she is also the source of the fertility and energy that have transformed the barren Nebraska prairie into a rich and fruitful garden” (Lambert 46).…

Miss Cather seems to definitely admire Antonia, as reflected in her writings. There are many different qualities about Antonia that are expressed in a favorable light. She was a beautiful girl with “such fine brown legs and arms, and splendid color in her cheeks – like those big dark red plums.” But as we all know; looks isn't everything. She had “strong independent natures” and “deep down there was a kind of joviality, a relish of life, not over-delicate, but very invigorating.”…
