Facts and Assumptions (Brent) There are few products that can justify the moniker associated with the term “iconic”, in fact there are only a few brands that are actually made in Texas that are worthy of labeling this prestigious term. Most Texans are very proud of the state they inhabit, and extremely proud of the products manufactured in the state. Having this term applied to your label means that your company has satisfied the fastidious requirements expected from our regional populations. This behavior was illustrated when one of the most iconic brands manufactured in Texas, Blue Bell ice cream experienced a listeria outbreak forcing the company on April 20th, 2015 to close its manufacturing facilities for four months, and endure a massive negative publicity campaign.…

Hankin performed an interesting experiment to test if the antibacterial ‘substance’ in Ganges and Jamuna was volatile in nature. He heated the Ganges and Jamuna water in an open and a hermatically sealed tube (Hankin, 1896 and Hankin 2011- this is the English version of the original French paper translated by gangagen.com). He found that the antibacterial activity was retained when the water was heated in the sealed tube, but was lost in the open tube. Although the exact temperature and the duration of heating is not known, it appears that Hankin might have used a considerable temperature for a long duration that would have killed all biological substances, including bacteriophages, except perhaps bacterial endospores (Abedon et al, 2011).…

Barrier products play an important role in effective and protective skin care regimes (Nix, 2006). Barrier creams are protective products, designed to form an occlusive barrier between the skin and noxious substances, not to be confused with emollients which moisturise the skin (Voegeli, 2008). Overenthusiastic application of some barrier creams may reduce the effectiveness of continence pads by clogging the absorbent layer and causing urine/loose stool to pool against the skin. This causes hyper-hydration and leads to possible moisture damage. However, if barrier creams are applied in line with the manufacturer’s instructions, this should not happen (Bolton, 2004).…

The topic I am considering is how effective antibacterial foam is in a hospital setting. This topic relates to our nursing practice because we use antibacterial foam constantly when caring for our patients. It is our job as nurses to keep our patients as safe as we can from infection, but is foaming in and out of a patient’s room really doing the trick? The clinical protocol that relates to my PICOT question would be using antibacterial foam in place of hand washing during patient care. This protocol already exists, so I do not need to develop it.…

For more than 70 years, antibiotics have been used to treat bacterial infections of the body. The first appearance of this life changing medicine, was in the 1940’s on the battlefield. This medicine was named penicillin, the drug saved many from the brink of death, by fighting bacterial diseases; from then on antibiotics changed the face of medicine. Infection was no longer an impregnable wall that had to be broken down before the real treatment could begin, infections could be treated on site, at moments notice. As time passed, the world became co-dependent on the use of antibiotics to treat all of the body 's infections, and was repeatedly misused.…

INTRODUCTION: Over prescription and extensive use of antibiotics has caused antibiotic resistance at an shocking rate (Mezger et al.2014). The main aims of Antibiotic sensitivity testing is detecting possible drug resistance in common pathogens by in-vitro testing of bacterial cultures with antibiotics to determine susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotic therapy. The tests are frequently used when the etiologic agents are members of species capable of resistance to commonly prescribed drugs (Jenkins and Schuetz,2012). The most-widely used tests in clinical laboratories include Manual: Broth Microdilution, Disc Diffusion and E-test.…
