He did it so he would not technically be responsible for her death. Antigone ended up committing suicide by hanging herself. In the end, the majority of the people commit suicide, all of it starting with the conflict about the burial of Antigone and Ismene’s brother. All the death, all of it due to the brother’s death and Antigone’s mission to make things right in her eyes.
“No more Ismene, you are alive, but I belong to Death.” –Antigone 97-98 Antigone did stand up for what she thought was right, didn’t care about punishment or death, and died for her brother’s honor. These are reasons I personally think she was the tragic hero of this play. She has many traits of bravery and showed that by taking it to the extreme of death. Although many other people died as well due to the result of her death, it could have been prevented if Creon would have just understood her cause and where she was coming from.
