The poem is try to get the person to try to not to shy away from anything. I think that the poem speaks more to Neil, because it telling him he should follow and do what he think is right. This is something that Mr. Keating was trying to tell Neil. The poem also sends the message to not follow in what society might think is right but what you think is right. Mr. Keating tells his student this when they were marching. He wanted to try to get the kids to try not to follow in what society is doing and to do their own thing, just as one of the kids try to do. He decided that because they were all marching the same he should march differently.
