This week’s current events discussion is about Anti-Trump protests that have spread throughout the country. The main point of all four articles is that Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election has spread protests across the nation starting on wednesday. On one hand I think they should be able to do whatever they think will help make a change. On the other hand I don’t agree on how far vandalizing and violence has gone. People should fight for what they believe in, personally I am anti-Trump, but I wouldn’t vandalize other people’s property or hurt anyone who supports him.
The issue is not the protests itself, but how far they have gone. Most protests are found in The articles claim that the protests began peacefully with no harmful

From the outset, Massachusetts was the leader of the anti-British protests for a few reasons. First and foremost, the British establishment of the Dominion of New England- which combined the colonies of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Connecticut into a single province headed by a Royal governor (Edmund Andros)- angered the Massachusetts colonists and created a tense relationship between Great Britain and the colony early on. In addition, there was a growing colonial merchant class in Massachusetts whose wealth and prosperity was threatened by the slew of taxes that the British enacted, particularly the Navigation, Sugar, Stamp and Tea acts. The Massachusetts colony was also the chief center of resistance; serving as the home…

Picture this. You’re at a peaceful anti-war protest on a college campus in Ohio. Then national guards show up armed and ready to threaten the protesters, whom are college students, or even stop them. To find out about the tragedy on that awful day, you need to know how it started, what happened and who did it, and what happened for the aftermath and why we still know of it today. The unrest in Ferguson, MO is over the decision of whether or not to indict Darren Wilson, the white police officer involved in the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old named Michael Brown. This decision by a grand jury has sparked riots, protests, and general anger across the nation. Those people who agree with the rioters and/or protestors say things, such as, “Racism is still here and if you don’t think that’s true, open your eyes!” Others are quick to point out, “THE LOOTERS AND THE PROTESTORS ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE! STOP SPREADING LIES,” (sic).…

“Things have changed, a lot,” said David Whitt, who lives near where Brown was killed. But the issue remains that somebody was killed by police, and people say, "We haven’t got justice,” he said.(A year after shooting, Ferguson inches toward new reality) But, at the same time we are slowly coming together to become equal and less aggressive with each other and the town that has been affected is slowly getting better. “We are making progress,” said Jerryl Christmas, a lawyer who represents several activists arrested during demonstrations in Ferguson. “A lot of issues have been raised and a lot of conversation is going on, but we still need more action.”…

“things quickly got out of hand as some protesters tried to climb on police motorcycles. Men and women were pepper-sprayed and thrown to the ground and handcuffed.” That incident followed a similar vigil gone wrong the night before, when according to the NYPD, “a large, disorderly group [began] throwing bottles at police.” The crowd in that incident trashed a Rite Aid and robbed the store.” There are so many that like t reflect on the past as the horrors that were and forget to realize the terrors that still…

In the first incident where in antiwar leaders were bombed by Chicago police officers. People argue due to the fact that Chicago police officers could 've handled the issue in another way by just having the protesters leave the park in a peaceful way without anyone being injured. In the second incident where the protester were stopped was totally insane because protesters were stopped by police mans and were severely beaten even doctors that were just trying to give medical help to the injured ones.…

Civil disobedience has been a huge part of our history, significantly impacting our growth as a country and as a free society. From the Boston Tea Party (which stretches the idea of civil disobedience since property was technically destroyed) to the Women’s March after inauguration day, there have been several instances of peaceful, purposeful resistance. Most notably, Muhammad Ali’s refusal to go to Vietnam, Rosa Parks’ demonstration on the bus, and the various Black Lives Matter protests that follow every new shooting. Quite obviously, these demonstrations are meant to rile up emotions and pressure politicians into making a change in favor of the civilian who broke the law.…

The First Amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”(congress). If done the right way, protests can have a great outcome, with no harm done or casualties. But in history, one may learn that the greatest protests, involved many deaths, and some even went completely against the government. People protest for the sole reason that a group is being treated unfairly, or most importantly, to make a change. Protests can vary in many different ways, such as in peaceful manors, boycotting, or even signing a…

Very little has reformed from the earlier few decades when reexamining the 1992 election race for the presidency. Sulking tempers, outbursts, and verbal abuse may have reached all-time highs between candidates; however, the promises made and ideas imposed by each elective have not budged an inch. Per the National Bureau of Economic Research, ethnic diversity seems to be the major determinant for rioting in L.A., while little evidence points to poverty in the community as a large cause. (Glaeser 1) Media coverage of the riots would provide ample election exposure for the running nominees. It was this very same ethnic diversity that brings about the Black Lives Matter(BLM) activist movement in 2013, in response to the acquittal of George…

On February 1st, 2017 riots broke out on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. It was a brawl waiting to happen. The United States of America turned upside down because First Amendment restrictions ceased to exist. Regulations including time, place, and manner, keep our country from causing absolute chaos. In America, time, place, and manner are three key elements to success as a culture. Most of everything accepted in society is done in a specific time, place, and mode, even the way we communicate.…

I strongly believe civil disobedience is a core principle in the development of our nation. Ever since the revolution which brought forth our new nation, protest has come hand in hand with change. The founding fathers learned not all battles could be won by lead and mortar. They displayed early acts of civil disobedience against the tyrannical system of the British. This stand against oppression was vital in the founding of our nation, and thus elemental to the development of our nation's values.…

The oppression that is cast upon the black community is the result of racism. Racism has been around since the time that two different races encountered one another. Being that both, oppression and racism, have been a problem for hundreds of years, they cannot be expected to go away in the matter of half of a century. In order for racism and black oppression to be nonexistent, children will have to be taught that they are equal no matter the color of their skin. It is not morally right for someone to be oppressed because they were born a certain skin tone.…
