Anti Suicide Song Analysis Essay

Improved Essays
This song was written to deliver a message of hope to people who think they are alone. This is an anti-suicide song. R.E.M. wanted to say that everybody can have difficulties but we are all together and we have to persevere. The singer of the group, Michael Stipe has mentioned in interview that the song was written for the band’s teenager fans to help them through hard moments. It’s their way to say that everyone has darker days and that life is never easy but to keep hoping for brighter days.
This song has a very sad mood and a somber tone. I think it is a very touching song and it makes us realized that pain deserves to be feel. We don’t have to keep everything for ourselves. Everyone experiences at some point in their lives pain and sadness.

This song remined me of a point in my life where I felt that my girlfriend at the time seemed to be drifting away from me. Bit by bit she started neglecting me and really letting me know that she truly had lost the love she had for me! That is why this song is so important because although the whole point of the song is about letting go of a love for a woman that is gone and the relationship ended. There is special verses that caught my attention such as, “me ire sin marcha atras porque seria fatal” which translates to I will go away without a return because it would be fatal. This I really for a strange reason got a strong connection with this because time in and out me and my girlfriend had arguments in the past but when we broke up I knew that I was best to just not try and keep going with a hurting relationship like we had!…
