The Meriam-Webster dictionary defines anti-Semitism as: hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group. Anti-Semitism and violence against individuals practicing Judaism has been present in society with an early example being the Rhineland massacre in 1096. However, when individuals in 2016 discuss anti-Semitism they immediately think of the Holocaust. That is why when reading the article about the rabbi in Ottawa finding a swastika and a Jewish slur on her door will view the perpetrator as being deviant. The perpetrator is deviant in two ways. The first way the perpetrator is deviant is because they may be affiliated or agree with neo-Nazism. In modern society, anyone who is a member of a neo-Nazi group
