Anti Gmo Persuasive Speech

What has this world come to? Americans are consuming toxins on a daily basis. GMOs or “seeds of death” are injected with pesticides and are poisonous! They cause cancer! The bees and butterflies are dying after landing on them! Don’t even get me started on the creator of GMOs, Monsanto! Monsanto is a giant evil corporation which is just in it for the money. They don’t care about anything but their wallets and even sue helpless family farmers for no reason! GMOs and anyone associated with them are revolting! We must obliterate GMOs!

So, now that I have your attention, this is what anti-GMO activists are filling the heads of the American people with. All of it is a lie. So why are people believing it?

As a member of the FFA it is my duty to advocate for agriculture. To me, that means telling people the facts and to hold true to the best traditions of our national life, as well as protecting the new ones. I am here to tell you about GMO’s. I can’t force someone to understand my side of the story nor do I have all the answers, but I can explain the scientific evidence, encourage people to question the claims being made and make an educated opinion of their own based on facts and not propaganda. I believe it is my responsibility to take this opportunity, to post, tweet, and text on social media sites, telling people the real truth about agricultural issues and back them with scientific evidence and not opinions and hearsay. We must rationally challenge the opposition while respectfully demanding them to back their accusations with scientific, peer reviewed data from unbiased sources. Farming is based in science and if the general public won’t believe the science, we will have to teach them to find the answers for themselves.
