Anti-Flat World

There are a number of other reasons why some people reject a flat world. One major reason that comes to mind is the protective outlook when it comes to certain things like unions. I am not against labor unions but I do think that there are aspects of unions that are anti-flat world. Huge amounts of money is spent in the United States by labor unions pleading for political support for actions that will put up trade barriers in order to shield domestic industries. I recognize that many people distress over losing their jobs to overseas organizations that are able to produce similar products at significantly lower costs. I think Friedman has provided sufficient proof in this book to explain how a flatter world offers countries like the US to capitalize

Although the regionalistic qualities of both the settings and the plots of The Outcasts of Poker Flat and The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County differ, their characters possess some of the same regionalistic qualities. In Twain’s story, for example, the narrator is a stereotypical educated easterner who uses flamboyant and complicated language like “I hereunto append” (Twain 660), “interminable narrative” (Twain 662), and “enterprising vagabond” (Twain 666). A second example of Twain’s stereotypical characters is Simon Wheeler; his dialect is extremely prominent throughout Twain’s tale, especially when he frequently uses words like “feller,” “warn’t,” “Thish-yer,” and “bullyrag” (Twain 662, 663). Likewise, Harte expresses the characters…

A noteworthy feedback of Friedman's postulation in The World is Flat is that it is an uneven perspective of globalization, an excessively idealistic perspective of the advantages of globalization. Numerous researchers trust it is risky to have such a great amount of confidence in globalization and have asked alert in taking after a book, which some accept, depends on "unsupported claims" and "meetings with companions" and " playing golf with rich and renowned corporate administrators". Ronald Aronica and Mtetwa Ramdoo have composed a hard-hitting book The World Is Flat?: A Critical Analysis of New York Times Bestseller by Thomas Friedman which introduces another side of globalization, concentrating on numerous issues overlooked by Friedman.…

Rivioli discusses positive of globalization, and seems to agree that the world is becoming “flat” due to the increase in opportunities globalization has caused for all of those involved. However, in addition to discussing the positive effects of globalization the author also discusses the negative aspects of globalization. For example, in the first section of the book, the author discovers that the cotton of the t-shirt she bought in Florida was made in China, so she decides to travel the China. However, even though the t-shirt was created in China, Rivioli learns that the main product necessary in order to create the t-shirt, cotton, was harvested in Texas. Because the economy has become more global, more countries want to become rich; some believe that by manufacturing cotton they will be able to do this.…

Thomas L. Friedman in his book titled, “The World Is Flat” does not give a speculative preview of the wonders that are to come in our lifetime. The short story “The Outcasts of Poker Flat” is one major journey, not physically, but mentally for the characters. Though the story ends in tragedy, most of the characters go through major mental changes before their untimely deaths. Though even some of the positive changes had negative consequences, such as Mother Shipton starving herself for her compassion of Piney, and Oakhurst making it impossible to survive by ensuring Tom made it to the…

The author, Thomas Friedman, discusses the three major issues he sees in the world, as evident by the title of this informative book.
