Decent Essays
Anti-discriminatory practice aims to stop discrimination in all forms and promote equality, diversity and rights. Every organisation from hospitals, schools, day cares, homes etc. will have policies that provide guidance on anti-discriminatory practice.

All service users are different, and have different needs. The health professionals need to ensure all service users are given the same opportunities, despite their colour, race, gender, sexuality etc. To promote anti-discriminatory practice within health and social settings health professions must ensure equal access to all health services without discrimination. Ensure that resources are available in different languages. For example a pregnancy book should be available in different languages

The Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) is an Act to “promote equality of opportunity for everyone by protecting them from unfair discrimination in certain areas of activity and from sexual harassment and certain associated objectionable conduct.” However, there is a clear abundance of depth within the act itself, leading to the creation of cases as this, allowing this case note to explore the facts and judgements of the case itself whilst also providing an opinion on the topic of concern. FACTS Justices Fraser, Gotterson and Wilson of the Court…

Anti-discrimnatory practices can also be promoted by being a good role model. Children and young people will look up to and see the adults that work with them as role models. Every adult that works with children and young people, needs to be aware that the actions and behaviours they portray and the things they say are noticed by the children. Children tend to copy and imitate people they look up to, so when working with children, adults need to act professionally and portray an image that is non-judgmental. Adults need to show respect to all individuals regardless of their culture, religion, ethnicity or disability.…

This is because of there socio-economic differences.…

Racism is the belief that belonging to a particular race means a person has inherent characteristics that one deemed either superior or inferior. Based on racist belief, prejudice and discrimination are still alive today, though important figures as Martin L. King Jr. lead the movements to end this and enact anti-segregation laws. These ideas are being transmitted to younger generations despite the progress that has been made. The minorities and people who are victimized by this injustice find it often difficult to focus on the task at hand and the goals they set out for. When victimized, people often respond in two ways: acting out in a violent manner, or fighting against others.…

Kendra makes another good point. People do behave differently. Sometimes people get nervous around others. I’ve heard a few stories from other people in the where they claim that the police officer used their nervousness as a way to search their vehicle. Jennifer, I agree with you. Any kind of discrimination and racism in any shape or form should not be tolerated as it only results in prejudice towards an individual or a group. Stereotypes are often inaccurate as they are formed by applying generalizations about a group to an individual. Those who choose to discriminate against minorities know very little about that ethnic group and solely based their knowledge about that group from stereotypes. It is sad to learn that the Chinese had to keep quiet in order to survive in a society that did not accept them from who they are.…

Some may be wondering how could laws meant to discriminate against the LGBT community also affect those that are not LGBT? How would such laws affect all of us in our everyday lives? Discrimination is something that happens everyday, based on someone’s race, sexuality, gender identity, appearance, etc. This is something that has been happening since the beginning of time; and will most likely not stop any time soon. Martin Luther King made a huge difference within the racial section of America; and President Obama made a controversial decision to make same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. Even though great people have taken huge strides to make a difference in the world, equality is still something that is not fully in place. I see it every day, and at my job, I am expected to treat every customer with the same amount of respect I would treat anyone else.…
