Anthony's Culture Paper

Anthony’s culture, family environment, past experiences and prior knowledge influence his present learning. Cultural differences affect how people communicate and interact with others and their expectations of how others will respond. Every culture has its own sets of rules, interpretations and expectations. Being aware of your own cultural experiences, influences how you see, appreciate and accept others culture. Skin color, language, access to education, accent and demeanor are all linked to identity. Each of these factors influence how one sees others and them self. The concept of good parenting is culturally, socially, economically and racially biased. The educational system varies from school to school, and can be good or bad depending on how they are implemented and interpreted; parents need to be advocates for their children’s learning to ensure they receive the best elementary, middle and high school education in which to become successful learners. The federal government responsibility is to focus less on assessment and evaluation, and more on the strength, creativity, uniqueness of children and their childhood, by supplying schools with adequate resources. The primary concern should be what is best for the children. Education is not only about teaching letters and numbers, but supporting students to be lifelong learners, after all school should be interesting, fun, and a relaxed place where children can be themselves and look forward to going to everyday, to interact with peers, teachers and to …show more content…
Tenure or not, educators and schools are held accountable for the education of our nation’s future leaders. To improve conditions in public schools, it might be beneficial to use a holistic approach to teaching. All children learn at a different pace. Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences exemplifies the importance of individuals realizing their own potential in different modalities. This method would benefit Anthony and all students in any academic environment, especially in today’s diverse classroom. In order to be an effective teacher, one must be aware of a child's cognitive, social and emotional development, which can only happen when the teacher is able to work closely with each student.
