When I asked a transgender male about the biggest issue society faces in accepting transgender individuals, he replied, “I think society’s biggest failing is not seeing us as people. Being transgender does not make you any different than anyone else.” His words moved me and reminded me why I felt his story needed to be told. Anthony Davis Pait is a transgender teenager who transitioned from female to male. In October of 2016, Anthony started taking testosterone and he plans on getting surgery in the future. Although his transition has had a significant impact on him, there is more to him than just his gender identity. Many people fail to see Anthony and other transgender individuals as people. Over the past couple years, trans people have become the center of a debate over bathrooms, which has caused people to objectify and depersonalize an entire group of people.

Luckily, I choose a topic that I was both educated about and interested in. My own experience with transitioning from female to male has helped me portray Anthony’s story more adequately. I choose this story because I had personal experience with it and I knew the importance of telling Anthony's story. Prior to this project, I have documented my own transition in both pictures and videos, which gave me insight on how I wanted Anthony’s pictures to turn out. I also drew different frames of possible pictures I wanted to capture. Although I planned out multiple pictures I planned on capturing, I still wish I planned out more because we were left with extra time that caused me to have to think of more ways to capture Anthony’s story on the spot. However, both the shots I planned prior to the photoshoot and on the spot turned out well because I decided to do the photoshoot in a place I was familiar with; my
