National Anthem Arguments

The NFL has recently received a lot of media/political attention in the last year. About a year ago, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick refused to stand during the playing of the National Anthem and he was kneeling while it was playing. His reasoning for why he was kneeling was to protest against police brutality and racism that is going on across the country. Last year, there were not many NFL players who supported Kaepernick and his form of protest, but this year there have been hundreds of NFL players joining in on the protest and there have been two major arguments that have developed. I do not think it the most appropriate form of protest, I still think it’s appropriate, but I think they could do something different. For example, last week when the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals played, all the players kneeled and locked arms before the playing of the National Anthem and then stood up once it started playing. All Americans have the right to peacefully protest, but having said that, it does not protect them from any consequences of what they say. I feel the decision of standing for the National Anthem should be up to the coaches and the owner of the NFL teams. So if a NFL teams makes their own decision to make it mandatory to stand for the National Anthem (which I don’t think would happen in the first place) and a player refused to and faced consequences, I wouldn’t be surprised. I feel like politics has gotten into football way too much. Every since Pres. Trump made comments about the protest, politics has been dragged into. This shouldn't even be an issue for Pres. Trump. Players are peacefully protesting and Trump is getting into it. He should be putting his focus on much bigger issues in the world than this, for example the North Korean missile issue or hurricane
