In the flawed attempt to create a world of perfection and equality the imperfections of the plans lead to injustice, as a result the world of peace envisioned at first slips away, and a dystopia is born. A dystopia is a world where injustice consumes a society and causes conflicts and harm with the lives of their civilians. The two novels Anthem by Ayn Rand, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury both depict dystopian societies. Anthem depicts a future based off of collectivist ideologies where everything is predetermined and violence, betrayal, and deception are nearly non-existent. Even though he was chosen to become a street sweeper, his passion always lied in discovering the world and bettering society, however his society disapproves. While the groups of children are still in school they are taught that they can’t do what they aspire to do for a living, instead their teachers told them, “Dare not choose in your minds the work you would like to do when you leave the Home of the Students. You shall do that which the Council of Vocations shall prescribe for you" (Rand, 9). The fact that one cannot be recognized as an individual and is not permitted to follow their dreams is one of the reasons why the world depicted in Anthem is a dystopia. Ever since Prometheus was a young child, he had a passion for discovering and creating, this passion lead him to step astray from his street sweeping career and attempt to benefit their community by introducing people to a light bulb they found.
