In order to reduce the intensity of situations that may entail the utilization of seclusion and restraint procedures and improve the implantation, student teams should consider utilizing positive behavior supports. A main priority for student teams should be preventing crisis situations, implementing proactive interventions for student and differentiating instruction based on student needs.
Antecedent manipulations should be the cornerstone of all behavioral programming. Antecedent manipulations should emphasize on preventing the crisis behavior from occurring. The focus of antecedent manipulation is to pinpoint and modify the conditions within the environment that is reinforcing the maladaptive behaviors. Antecedent interventions should

Manipulating the antecedents controlled the rates of the participant’s aggression behavior. Manipulating the antecedents acted as an establishing operation, which temporary altered the effectiveness of the removed stimulus which decreased the aggression behavior (Mueller et al., 2001.) Kennedy conducted a study to review antecedent conditions with three students with severe disabilities who exhibited maladaptive behaviors. The antecedent conditions pertained to the instructor’s task demands and social comments. The study consisted of three phase descriptive analysis. Phase one confirmed task demands served as antecedents for maladaptive behavior and social comments were related with increased levels of positive social affect. In phase two the instructor produced high rates of social comments and systematically faded task demands. The experimenter’s replicated phase one during phase three. The results indicated task demands no longer served as antecedents to the maladaptive behaviors.
