During the antebellum many economic changes occurred that impacted the American development both socially and politically. The nation that period was going through the industrial revolution, which caused the nation to grow apart due to the north being very industrialized and the south remaining to an agricultural economy. These economic changes impacted both social and political developments because socially, it created gender and education reform, labor unions and politically,caused the americans to enforced laws that benefitted the economy.

In the 1800s, ladies were second-class citizens. Ladies were required to confine their circle of enthusiasm to the home and the crew. Ladies were not urged to acquire a genuine training or seek after an expert profession. After marriage, ladies did not have the privilege to claim their own property, keep their own wages, or sign an agreement. Furthermore, all ladies were denied the privilege to vote. Women did not want to feel like anymore, they wanted to became part of the new society, where they are seeing as human beings not as their husbands property. In 1843, Lydia Maria Child argue in “Woman’s rights” that women would be able to achieve more by working alongside men, and women can achieve the same as men, there should be no barrier between them because both men and women are the same. Now that the society is changing where there’s a lot of jobs available where both women and men can do, many people especially Lydia Martin wanted women to work alongside men in these new jobs available. Education reform was also become frequent due to the economic change. In the 1800s Few areas had public schools. Wealthy parents sent their children to private school or hired tutors at home. On the frontier, 60 children might attend a part-time, one-room school. Their teachers had limited education and received little pay. Most children simply did not go to school. In the cities, some poor children stole, destroyed property, and set fires. Due to the industrial revolution, the gap between the rich and the poor was very large and that impacted education because the rich get to have access to education while the poors are being left out. Horace Mann argued that in “Twelfth Annual Report to the Secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education”, he says that the only the rich have access while the others are being left out which caused
