Abstract:
When an acid and a base combine, the base neutralizes the acid in a chemical reaction. This is how an antacid works (Gomez).
During this project, we will test which of the 3 generic brand antacids chosen are most potent in neutralizing lemon and grape juice. This can be helpful in a real life situations, if you are experiencing heartburn, acid reflux, and/or dietary problems. This experiment will help you decide which antacid actually diffuses the acid in your stomach and has the fastest effect.
The results of the study that we have found is that if you have any upset stomach, heartburn, or constipation

Our experiment will determine which of the antacids are the best for neutralizing acidic content in your stomach

Introduction:
Many people suffer daily from heartburn, indigestion, and extra gas such as belching, bloating, and feelings of discomfort in the stomach. Antacids are used to treat these problems that arise. They neutralize the acid content within our stomachs (Knott). This is able to happen because the chemicals in antacids are bases which are the exact opposite of acids (Knott). The most common of these bases are hydroxides, carbonates, or bicarbonates (Amore). When the base and the acid meet they cause for the stomach contents to become less corrosive (Knott). When these antacids work on the acid produced by your stomach, they produce a gas that causes wind (flatulence) (Knott). Simethicone helps stop this gaseous effect and sometimes is in antacids themselves (Knott). Many of the general antacids used by people when experiencing these gaseous problems work by creating a gel that floats on top of the contents in your stomach (Knott). The gel works as a

This can be proven by the fact that Milk of Magnesia used the least amount of drops to neutralize the grape and lemon juice or for a color change to occur in both of the acidic liquids. On the other hand, Mylanta used the most drops, to neutralize the grape and lemon juice. This experiment shows how quickly a specific antacid can effectively work given an acidic substance to neutralize . But, there may be some misconceptions in the data because of underlying factors that may affect the data from being precise such as the use of varied ingredients in each antacid. This experiment applies to a real-world problem that occurs to thousands of people on a daily basis. The problem of heartburn, indigestion, constipation, and many more spring up on people and they believe that they are using a “fast acting” antacid that actually takes elongated gates of time or in this case drops, to actually diffuse the acidic contents of your

    3. The patient in this case study is taking omeprazole for a presumably gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD). Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor producing a decrease in the gastric acid secretion, therefore it is used as first treatment option in the gastrointestinal reflux disease( May and Rao,2014) 4. It would be reasonable to suspect that constipation in this patient’s case is induced by the aosteoarthritis therapy and anticholinergic effect of loratadine used for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis.…

Proton pump inhibitors are common clinical drugs that are effective in treating acid-related diseases. They work by reducing the amount of acid produced by gastric glands in the mucous membrane in the stomach. The gastric proton pump resides in this gastric mucosa at the apical pole of the parietal cells. Under normal circumstances, approximately three liters of stomach acid is produced in a day under the regulation of the parasympathetic nervous system. The principle stimulant of acid secretion by the gastric proton pump is food intake, which acts by releasing gastrin.…

For pain or fever, dosing is 325-1000mg every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 4000mg/day for adults and 10-15mg/kg every 4-6 hours for children. The drug works by producing analgesia and reducing inflammation and fever by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins. It also decreases platelet aggregation, which will decrease the incidence of transient ischemic attacks and myocardial infarctions. The purpose of the medication is to decrease inflammatory disorders including: Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, for mild to moderate pain, fever and prophylaxis of transient ischemic attacks and myocardial infarction. Side effects include: tinnitus, gastrointestinal bleeding, dyspepsia, epigastric distress, nausea, abdominal pain, anorexia, hepatotoxicity, vomiting, anemia, hemolysis, increased bleeding time, anaphylaxis, and…

Proton pump inhibitors are also proactive in their approach to eliminating heartburn. They work similarly to the H2 blockers in that they prevent the production of stomach acid; however, they are more effective than H2 blockers for severe and complex cases of gastro-esophageal reflux disease. They are often preferred by health care providers, and recommended to patients even above antacids. In this experiment, alkaline water is compared against antacids, rather than the other medications, because antacids work most similarly to alkaline water in the neutralization of acidic fluid. Moreover, alkaline water and antacids both neutralize stomach acid after it has been produced, rather than preventing the production…

Purpose The question being explored in this experiment is how temperature affects the rate of reaction of Alka-Seltzer, or effervescent tablets. The purpose of this is to see whether hotter temperatures or cooler temperatures cause the reaction to be quicker. Effervescent tablets are used to orally distribute medicine for patients and consumers (Laboratories SMB). By adding the tablets to water, the medicine is released into the solution, allowing the consumer to easily drink the solution and take the drugs needed for their health (Haack & Köberle).…

CONCLUSIONS: The purpose of this experiment was to find the concentration of the unknown base (NaOH) through a titration. In the experiment, it took 0.95 mL of NaOH with a concentration of 0.53 moles to neutralize 5.0 mL of a 0.100 M of HCl. In the expected result, the concentration of the NaOH was 0.50 moles. The percent error for the lab was only 6%, which means the lab had a fairly high accuracy.…

After my partner and poured the NaOH solution into the buret we recorded its molar concentration, which turned out to be 0.1. After we heated the solution it turned blue. After the color change we had to repeat certain steps and boil it again until we got the correct color change.…

Yet, this bodily process is a key contributor to normal everyday functions, particularly metabolism and digestion. Gastric acid secretion is precisely regulated by neural (acetylcholine), hormonal (gastrin), and paracrine (histamine; somatostatin) mechanisms. The prime inhibitor of acid secretion is somatostatin. Its inhibitory paracrine effect is mediated predominantly by receptors coupled via guanine nucleotide binding proteins to inhibition of adenylate cyclase activity. All the pathways converge on and modulate the activity of the luminal enzyme, H+, K+-ATPase, the proton pump of the parietal cell.…

Acetaminophen, a popular active ingredient in many over-the-counter drugs, is used as a pain reliever and a fever reducer. It is synthesized from the reaction between a carboxylic acid and an amine; thus, acetaminophen contains hydroxyl and amide functional groups.1 C6H7NO + C4H6O3 C8H9NO2 + C2H4O2 This reaction is commonly known as a condensation reaction.…
