1. Pedagogy
Pedagogy is a teacher’s method or practice on how they teach their students. My pedagogy before teaching the work sample unit was: First, all students should be given the opportunity to access the content the content being taught on their level. Second, if you use UDL to present the content in multiple ways students will access the content and develop and understanding of it. Third, UDL helps students move through the stages of Blooms Taxonomy of learning especially from remembering to understanding and to understanding to applying. Fourth, when planning lesson teachers need to plan for student considerations that are meaningful and beneficial for students. Once, I started to teach my lesson and implementing

I had not been provided with an opportunity to see what an assessment looked like at the kindergarten level because the teachers do not give assessments unless they are state issues. I did not know how many questions to put on the assessment. I did not want to overwhelm my students. I ended up have 13 items on my assessment. 6 out of the 13 items were focus on the six stages of the life cycle. After implementing the pre and post assessment and my instruction I would go back and change my assessment. I did not make it challenging enough for my students. Most of my question remained at the remembering level of Blooms. A lot of the questions I asked on my assessment, my students could answer with prior knowledge. I should have included more questions at the understanding level and even one question at the application level. I under estimated my students and what they could answer. When creating an assessment I did not create an assessment that allowed for major growth between pre and post assessment. Now that I have experienced implementing a pre-assessment that I could not change for my post assessment after implementing instruction, I now know that my students do not need to be successful on the pre-assessment. I think I was worried about my students feeling confident when taking the pre-assessment and not worried about the opportunity for growth. When creating assessment for kindergarten in the future I will not be afraid to include question that are at the understanding and application level of Blooms

Field Experience at Wildwood and Ernest Manning My cohort of ten was assigned to visit two schools over a two-week period with a full week dedicated to each location. The two schools were Wildwood elementary and Ernest Manning high school and while their relative closeness to one another would suggest that some Wildwood students may eventually be at Ernest Manning, they are opposites in terms of their status, how they carry themselves, and what they believe to be most important for students. Wildwood elementary is an old school as observed from its small and outdated architecture. Classes are small and at times claustrophobic, especially when packed with 20-25 of the nearly 600 students making it difficult if not impossible to navigate the…

Data collected from assessments is also used to inform practice and to assist in the planning of future lessons and report to parents during interviews and on report cards. What I learned about standardized testing is that it’s a test that requires all the test takers to answer the same questions or a selection of questions from common bank of questions. I also believe that if the score is in a standard manner, it makes it possible to compare the relative performance of individual students or group of students. I also learned that with a standardized test it an include true or false questions, short answer questions, essay questions, or a mix of these question types. In regard to his recommendation, I think that it is a good idea because it can be less stressful on the students and the teachers. When its “teaching to the test” the scores in different cities or states would always go down because the students would not be ready at all for them.…

I also agree with Amy’s perspective on the strengths authentic assessment has to offer. Whenever I have worked with children in the past, I’ve tried to allow them to lead themselves to what they would prefer working on. It allows them to engage in activities and play that they enjoy which will also enhance the skills they already have and hopefully improve ones that need more…

Many people wonder why in Early Childhood Education why children are being assessed. Assessments can have both pros and cons, because at a very young age its very difficult for children to understand why they are being assessed and what they are being assessed on. Assessments are important because of the decisions teachers have to make throughout the year with the materials they have prepared. All the assessment should be made to help children and focus on one material at a time, which should be reliable, valid, and fair for that material. Assessments are made to recognize the ability of how children understand certain things.…
