Ansel Adams is a photographer known for his outstanding photos also for being an environmentalist. He was born in San Francisco, California, and was the son of Charles Hitchcock Adams and Olive Bray. His father was a businessman and his grandfather was a wealthy timber baron. Growing up he lived in a house that sat in sand dunes of the Golden Gate. When he was four years old an earthquake and fire him and his family were thrown to the ground causing him to break his nose and forever have a distinct mark on him. In 1907 a year after the earthquake the families fortune collapsed and they were then in a financial panic, his father then spent the rest of his life trying to recoup.

From teaching himself how to play the piano when he was twelve years old to becoming a photographer. If it wasn’t for a family trip to the Yosemite National Park in 1916 he would not have become passionate about what he was doing. He continues his passion for years and then in 1920, he spent the first of four summers as a custodian in Yosemite. After being there working he was given the opportunity by Harry Cassie Best to practice piano in the studio that he had. This is where he met his soon to be wife Virginia Rose Best, after years of being together they got married and had two children.
