NOVEMBER FIRE I woke up in a November fire when I saw you in the flames. As I walked towards you I saw the sorrow hidden behind your perfect eyes of blue. When you looked up at me and smiled I knew it meant goodbye. I tried reaching out to you but you quickly turned to fiery embers letting the soft night air carry you away into the darkness of the starry night sky. I yelled, please don't burn forever, but I knew it was too late.

Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

I just want to lay here and snuggle my scratchy sheets and fluffy pillow, something that would comfort me. I could still feel the heat of the fire on my skin, and see the flames wherever I looked, I could still smell the smoke, and I could still hear the screams of the fire and the ones caused by them. But, I have to do something, even if I just walk down to the food place, it’s still something. I forced myself out of my bed, still wearing the clothes from yesterday, laced with soot ashes. In the lighting of the lobby you wouldn’t have noticed, but know you couldn’t not see it.…

Other branches were lying around me on fire, and autumn colored leaves were floating gently to the ground smoking and smoldering. Stretching out from the base of the burning tree where the lightning had struck now stood a fissure cleaved opened several feet wide and billowing steam—Red fires glowing from down deep within. Abellona lay prone about fifteen yards away from me, but I could see that she was beginning to move and come around. I sat upright and watched her as I struggled to catch my breath, my breathing heavy and belabored from my…

I did so very eagerly, and cautiously for I knew nothing concerning the owner of this fire. It mattered not I finally told myself as I watched the fire dance on the ashes of that wood. I sat down and for a matter of hours I watched the fire burn and then turn cold as its life faded. About five hours after the Royal blazing had come to an end I snapped out of my trance, only to find…

During the hike I thought a lot about my summer reading, but sadly it didn't help me face the monster... During July of 2015 I was reading Into Thin Air while driving down south. While there, my family went on a hike that was on a smaller scale of Everest, but still gave me many lessons to take away from it. It was a short but scenic drive from the place we were staying to the long, treacherous trail. My brother and I started walking at a faster pace than our parents so we arrived at the first obstacle before our parents.…

When growing up, just about every child has some grandiose yet profoundly naïve dream for themselves, be it an astronaut, cowboy, the president, or even the regional manager of a gas station. I, of course, was no exception to this rule; much to my mother’s disappointment, my dream was to be a rock star. The idea of being on stage wowing crowds of people thrilled me immensely; however, even as a child, I understood this dream of mine to be incredibly unlikely, which made my moment of playing a shredding bass solo in front of an astonishing crowd of no more than thirty people all the more monumental. This dream remained dormant until 3 friends and I decided to form a band when we were in middle school.…
