The first research question is which flu vaccine is more effective for preventing the flu? I think most of us has had the flu or know someone who has had the flu so therefore, we know how important it is in preventing the flu. Two different types of vaccines have been tested: the shot and the nasal spray. A lot of people are aware of the shot but not the nasal spray. The nasal spray is better for children ages two and up and for those who are scared of needles.…

Influenza vaccination rates for the 2013-2014 influenza season indicated that among adults aged 18 and older, non-Hispanic whites (45.4%), Asians (43.6%), and American Indians/Alaska Natives (44.1%) had similar coverage, while non-Hispanic blacks (35.6%) and Hispanics (33.1%) had the lowest rates of influenza vaccination (Santibanez et al., 2014). One study investigated the racial and ethnic differences in the acceptance of the 2009 H1N1 and seasonal influenza vaccine (Uscher-Pines et al., 2011). The researchers assessed if outreach efforts put forth by the federal government, such as providing free or low-cost vaccinations, were an effective strategy in increasing vaccination rates in minority groups. Individuals that self-reported as White (non-Hispanic), Black (non-Hispanic), and Hispanic were included in the study. Data analysis showed a significant difference in seasonal influenza vaccination rates between Whites (42.6%) and Blacks (32.2%) (Uscher-Pines et al., 2011).…

I think it is important for people to be vaccinated. By being vaccinated, it prevents people from spreading diseases to other people. Vaccinations also prevent expensive treatments for diseases. Vaccines are safe, and do not give you the diseases they are meant to prevent. You should make sure to keep up with all vaccinations and boosters because if you develop a disease, you are putting other family members at risk.…

“Since 1700, there have been approximately a dozen influenza A virus pandemics; in the past 120 years there were pandemics in 1889, 1918, 1957 and 1968” (6). The pandemic in 1918 was the worst in in recorded history which caused approximately 546,000 deaths (6). These are all reasons why the flu is worth studying and finding a vaccine for. There are multiple types of the flu virus, specifically influenza A, B, C, and D. These names are given based on the antigen they have, or antigenic type (2). “Human influenza A and B viruses cause seasonal epidemics of disease almost every winter in the United States” (2).…

Getting the vaccine for a certain type of virus, you can still catch the virus if you are vaccinated anyway. 23% of the vaccine is effective out of the 100% and every year during flu seasons everyone is told to get vaccinated right away, to be prevented from viruses. America exaggerates on how well or how effective the vaccine will be just to get the people to go to the doctor and get vaccinated. In January 2015 nasty flu season began, people started to get the flu, and even the ones who were vaccinated. According to agency’s the vaccine shot in early 2015 was not working and was making people worse “many people are getting sick, even if they got their shots as recommended”.…

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention in response to growing concerns of the increasing number of reported deaths related to influenza, a vaccine-preventable disease, issued a mandate that all healthcare workers get vaccinated. The rationale behind this directive stems from their belief that vaccination of high-risk groups is a proven most effective influenza control measure. According to Steckel (2007), Studies on the efficacy of the vaccine have shown 70% to 90% prevention of infection in adults younger than 65 years when there is a match between the vaccine and the strain of influenza prevalent during that season. The serum is also most effective in the prevention of an epidemic when a suitably large percentage of groups are vaccinated.…
