There are 12 percent of African Americans at The University of Alabama. So events like the step show are very important to important to blacks on UA campus. Making it even more important for these organizations to display good conduct and leadership to keep a tradition so influential from being annulled. NPHC has come an extremely long way and all 8 of UA organizations take pride in them as soon as each member was awarded with their very own letters. Here at UA there are not a lot of events for blacks to relate to. I noticed on campus blacks don’t have the big luxurious sorority and fraternity houses like the other races on campus. I’m guessing that is from the lack of funding and financial help from our own race. So in a way the NPHC step show is a good way to help with those financial problems because the show raises money from the amount of tickets

When I was first introduced to Lambda Theta Phi Latino Fraternity Inc., certain aspects of the organization caught my attention. First and foremost, the organization promotes unity within the Latino community. Being united as Latinos is essential because together we acquire great accomplishments for the betterment of the community as well as ourselves. Moreover, being united provides the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities as Latinos and break the barriers society has imposed upon us. For me, being able to interact with Latinos at UNCG, through this organization, and having the opportunity to meet individuals who demonstrate valuable character is of great importance.…

While most people believe that non-profit are doing great public work, these organizations are often contributing to the increase of elitism and capitalist forms through corporate influence. Non-profit industrial complex (NPIC) is as a “set of symbolic relationships that link political and financial technologies of state and owning class control with surveillance over public political ideology, including and especially emergent progressive and leftist social movement” (Smith 8). This simply means that NPIC offers a space where corporations can control and authorize social justice movements through their financial support. It permits public monies to fall in the control of private corporation through foundations. The nonprofit industrial complex…

The same reasons that HBCUs were founded should be the same reasons why black students attend them. In addition to the safe haven that is created by the HBCU atmosphere, the student culture along with various organizations offer plenty of immersion into attending an HBCU. You will not only excel academically, but one’s learning and advancement will benefit them as people. Community service is also a huge part of the HBCU experience.…

Greek life on campus is an aspect of upper education that is publicized often, many proclaiming the social and educational benefits of living with your peers, but has a significant amount of negative stigma attached to it. Although the tales told of fraternities and sororities are sometimes exaggerated, there are many more cases where Greek life organizations have garnered copious amounts of attention for controversial behavior. In Fraternity and Sorority Alcohol Use: Does Race Matter?, Michael Capece, David Schantz, and Rebecca Wakeman expound upon one of these behaviors, specifically detailing the general perception of alcohol consumption within fraternities and sororities and across two different races, from the point of view of research.…
