Decision Making in Child Protective Services:
A Risky Business?
This story shows how the child protective service has a very flawed system in place. All over the United State people are distrusting how these offices operate. So many lawsuits have been filed against Child Services due to either there neglect or mishandling of cases. I feel this is a very reliable and useful resource for my final project . It clearly outlines the issues

This institution was created to protect the children. Alternatively, the social workers didn’t report and record their findings accurately. All the signs of abuse and neglect were ignored and there were times when the social workers tried to make excuses for the incidents. The social workers failed to do follow up’s and closed the multiple cases on the family with inaccurate dictations. With this in mind, there could have been more education and training for these workers to handle the cases in an appropriate manner.…

The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act: 40 Years of Safeguarding America’s Children (2014) states that the goal may be the most ambitious ever undertaken: a comprehensive child welfare system that supports children, families, and communities in ways that will prevent the occurrence- or recurrence- of maltreatment in the future. This act seeks to fulfill this goal through collaborating with others across the world that are involved in and have an interest in child abuse prevention and the welfare of children. According to Child Welfare: An Overview of Federal Programs and Their Current Funding (Stolzfus, 2015), another objective is to provide a primary social service response to abuse or neglect of children by their parents or other caregivers. This policy allows each state and territory the opportunity to receive funds in order to improve the operation of their child protective services (CPA). However, in order to attain these funds each state has to have an effective system in place to show how it operates and that confidentiality is maintained and that the process runs smooth and that any child in question of being mistreated will be protected throughout the process while not experiencing any added…

    Logan Marr Case Summary

The general knowledge was that any form of child abuse or neglect should be reported. The DHHS failed to report the abuse that Logan was received from Sally. The argument could have been made that Logan stated those abuse, because she wanted Sally seen as a bad foster parent. It was understandable that, when children acted out, they wanted to receive attention or to have things done their own. The case worker assigned to Logan and Bailey’s case should have been held responsible, because the child stated that she was abused and no action was taken.…

The government also implemented a nationwide system of government sponsored child protection (Myers, 2011, pg.12). This was a great advantage for child advocacy. Billions of dollars are devoted to child welfare for the benefit of children in need. We also saw CPS become available across the country, including the most rural parts of the country. The growth continued and in 1997 congress passed the Adoption and Safe Families Act, which made child safety the top priority above family preservation (Myers, 2011, pg. 12).…

Introduction Having such opportunity to be endowed with a million dollars to develop ideas on how to improve the Child Protective Services place me in a position where I am deliberating very hard on the programs or policies to implement. There are several programs and policies that are implemented in the Child Protective Services for clients and it is important to take into consideration the programs and policies by developing efficient and reliable platform that will be beneficial to the population they serve. I will certainly, invest some of the resources on the already existed programs of the Child Protective Services and research on new ideas that could help with their programs. Employing additional CPS workers and providing proper…

Every year, CPS and other organizations that are child welfare supporters, causes defenseless children their lives by keeping them with their abusive families too long. In 1996, an average of 2 children died each week in New York as a result of child abuse. 1/3rd of those cases were because of CWA’s neglect to the case (Stoesz, David, and Howard Jacob Karger). These numbers are very troubling coming from people who are supposed to be child abuse experts. There was a case that opened in New York the CPS, about a young child named Elisa Izquierdo.…

Introduction The government is more interested in the War on Terrorism then the terror in the eyes of over 700,000 children who have been horrifically abused; physically, mentally and sexually, along with being neglected or abandoned, by the hands of the ones they entrusted to love, care and provide for them, the parents of America (Numbers reflected by the National Foster Care Coalition, 2013). “Nearly 58% of children in foster care have been removed from their families for neglect. About 19% of all children who are maltreated are physically abused, 10% are sexually abused, and 7% psychologically abused. The remaining 6% of maltreated children experience educational or medical neglect.” (Children's Voice, Dec 2005 – Child Welfare League…

For example, in an impressive column concerning the workloads and unemployment of CPS case workers in Texas, Terri Langford claims that “there are more than 200 investigative positions with CPS in Harris County, but 33 of those positions are vacant, and another 22 caseworkers are still in training and not actively working abuse cases.” Moreover, a number of case workers are “let go” each year due to publicity scandals. We need to look no further than Jon Cassidy’s article, “The Impossible Job of Child Protective Services” to understand the complexity of a CPS case being published in the news or on social media. As a result, Cassidy’s article provides ample evidence to conclude that the publication of a child abuse fatality usually results in CPS firing the case worker, despite their efforts to help said child, in order to satisfy the public’s demands.…

Introduction: I am writing my Decision-Making Report over the need of the importance in learning to be able see the early signs of neglected or abused and what do at a child care facility or in a school. My main audience is the State of Texas Education. The reason I will write to this group of audience is because every school, day care facility should know and understand why it’s important to know the symptoms and know what should be done if a child is being neglected or abuse. While convincing the State of Texas Education about the problem with neglect and abuse, I will also talk about 3 possibilities there are for addressing/solving this problem. Audience questions: Neglect and abuse is something that increases every day in life.…

Anytown’s Department of Job and Family Services recently implements a new policy regarding child endangerment. To most people you would think for anyone to be charged with child endangerment, it had to be a very serious matter. What most people don’t realize is child endangerment could be simply leaving your child unattended. Nevertheless, child endangerment occurs when a person engages in conduct that places a child in imminent danger of death, bodily injury, or physical or mental impairment. I believe if a household has one or more documented offense that could put the child in a compromising position.…
