Since the age of nine, I have been a member of my church’s (Gaboan Baptist) youth choir, where I am able to express my passion for singing and strengthen my religious faith. As I member of my youth choir, I worked to organize charity outings such as singing and praying for the homeless at Pacific Garden Mission. As a volunteer, I perform several tasks: transport patients, direct guests to patients' rooms, train new incoming volunteers, greet visitors, and transport mail, flowers, and items to patients. I didn't decide to volunteer for community service hours, but out of thought that I wanted to be that person who helped to progress their community forward even through the smallest ways.
I have always viewed a community like a tower, where each individual represents each building block. If a person falls, the tower weakens because everybody matters and makes small a difference. Annika Rodriguez was someone who strengthened that tower. She didn't only work within her community at Washington University, but she went out to out of her way to make a difference in the world.
Although I have received the chance to work with a diverse group of people within my community ranging from the homeless to patients within hospitals, I aspire to be like Annika Rodriguez- dedicated to a life a service and compassion to everyone who I cross paths
