Annie-Personal Narrative

Improved Essays
It was quite by chance we were all together in one room. Nearly 20 years have

past since my brothers, sister, and I had occupied the same space long enough to capture the

moment on film. Yet, here we are, four generations strong waiting for the festivities to begin.

All around are the signs of celebrations, a birthday as I recall. Balloons and streamers

filling every inch of previously barren space on the walls. The air sweet, with the aroma of fresh

cut roses sitting near the bed where Annie lay, propped up just right by pillows on all sides. Near

her hand the bell she rings to call for help if need be.

“Annie” as we all call her is short for Auntie Georgia. The matriarch of

our family, Annie, has spent her life dedicated to

The one we could count on, to wipe our tears or share in

our smiles. No matter the situation, be it right or wrong, whether we needed scolding or love she

is always there. Now, is our time to give back to her, because when all is said and done, she will

always be our second mom.

Our dear sweet Annie has been primping all day to make sure everything is just right. Her

hair freshly colored to hide any hint of grey, meticulously curled and sprayed so that no

wild hairs get in the way. Her makeup artfully applied so not to be overdone and her nails

manicured and painted with a pale orange to match her lips. Chosen for both comfort

and style her outfit, brings out the hazel color of her eyes. This is a night she wants to remember,

but more importantly, it is a night she wants us all to never forget.

In the photograph stands my sister, her husband by her side. Such striking couple

her five foot two and his six feet five. They wear the smiles of a couple in love, even after

nearly forty years. Strong, yet refined you see the signs of worry, lend distinguishing

His wife petite and dainty, her smile lights up the room with warmth

somewhat like sunshine, a stark contrast to her chestnut hair and deep brown eyes. Each one of

their boys sport the same brown hair and eyes of their mother, although towering over her petite

stature one glance and you know they belong together.

It’s my 57th birthday and although to me it was just another day, to Annie it was cause

for celebration, a way for her to take a mental inventory, a time for her to witness first hand that

we were all strong and able to take on the world without her still holding our hands. None of us

are children, quite the opposite in fact, each one watching our grandchildren, begin to start

families of their own. Annie, brought us all together, perhaps as a final lesson in the

importance of family and the memories, we create. Making us all stop and pause, as we

reflect upon the love that we all share. Taking stock of our blessings, and remembering the

importance of setting time aside for those that helped in the shaping of ourselves as individuals.

These photographs, like moments frozen in time, tell the stories of our lives. We all

My biggest fashion icon has to be Hayley Williams, the lead singer of the famous pop-punk band, Paramore. Her style would probably best be described as ‘unique’. With dyed orange hair, brightly colored clothing, and a combination of patterns from head to toe, Hayley can look good in anything and everything. And because of her confidence and poise, she really does wear ‘anything and everything’! One of the reasons that I appreciate her style is because she wears outrageous clothes without concern for what anyone else might think.…

The Concept of Charity; “The Canterbury Tales” Throughout the “General Prologue” Chaucer presents a vast majority of characters in the mid 1400’s to represent human's instinct of dishonesty and corruption. Throughout all of Chaucer’s characters that he portrays as the twenty nine pilgrims, three in particular stand out due to their interaction with charity. During this time period of the mid 1400’s the idea of charity was seen as a good religious and human trait. Out of these three characters one exemplifies the true meaning of charity that Chaucer is trying to convey, the Parson, while the Prioress seems to be in the middle between the right cause and just not understanding the true meaning of charity.…
