It can be challenging to upgrade older electronics so that they can perform at an equal level and speed of new ones. Leonard states precisely that, “Today’s electronics are hard to upgrade, easy to break, and impractical to repair” (Leonard Paragraph 6, pg. 50-51). Newer electronics break very easily compared to older equipment that lasted. Electronics are expensive in the first place and more times than not, it costs more to fix something than to replace. She sates this point very clearly, without much room to misinterpret what she is trying to get across. I agree completely with the point stated above about in nondurable electronics being produced. Large electronics companies want you to buy their new products so they are not built with as much durability as they could be. Often at times, companies will make it so that a product’s software will not upgrade in an older product after a certain point almost forcing you to but the newest phone or laptop or television or whatever else you might have, otherwise you suffer as your technology slows …show more content…
This idea starts to explain the dangers that electronics have on the environment. Why do people not think about what happens to the phones, comps, etc.? People are getting seriously ill all due to electronics and not many people seem to understand the the harmful toxins that they hold and interact with everyday.
Leonard’s third idea is how these problems could potentially be solved if the companies making these products were held responsible. She asks, what would happen if all this waste was sent to CEO’s of big electronic companies? A lot of these problems would be solved Leonard claims, because these CEO’s want nothing to do with the waste. She also proposes that those who are designing these electronics need to be challenged not make devices that only work for a short time, but ones that last. I also agree with her on this point, because this problem needs to be solved. Dumping all of the waste on to the lawns of CEO’s is a bit radical, but companies should take responsibility for the waste that their products make. Their products are negatively affecting the Earth, and they need to fix it. If products were designed to last, there would be less waste to deal with and therefore the overall problem would be
