Annie was in the car on her way to her saturday dance class towards the end of the year. She suddenly remembered the show they always have. On the drive to dance the sky was blue and the sun was shining brightly. The radio was on loud like always on the same usual station, 105.3. She walked into class as normal and everyone seemed to have more energy than other saturdays as they crowded around Mrs. Tori with her phone out. “I found the song you are doing the dance to for the show, ” she said with a smile. Everyone was really thrilled to hear the song. “I also have some choreography to teach you, ” she exclaimed sounding very excited herself to finally have it figured out. The class had been kind of behind on figuring out the piece for the show …show more content…

Her mistake was to accidentally say that in front of Mrs. Tori. She caused a famous speech from Mrs. Tori because Mrs. Tori had a strong hatred for that statement. Saying you can’t do something is probably worse than swearing in front of her. Santiago decided to give up on his journey when his money to travel was stolen because of the language he couldn’t understand. He remembered his life as a shepherd and wanted to go back to the simple way it was before. He calculated how long he would have to work to have money to buy sheep. He came up with one year and decided to try it. Then he asked if he could work for the crystal merchant. (Coelho 7). Mrs. Tori decided to stand beside her and go through every single step. Her legs felt tired and her brain just didn’t seem to be working anymore. She decided to push through and learn the steps so she could feel better later. Everyone was exhausted from a long day of dance and just wanted to go home. The Alchemist challenged Santiago. The Alchemist claimed Santiago could turn himself into the wind. “He is going to transform himself into the wind, just to demonstrate his powers. If he can’t do so, we humbly offer you our lives, for the honor of your

When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision" (Coelho 70). To be specific, this is what the alchemist told the boy that “When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream” (114). What the alchemist means is that whenever a person has that strong desire and that highly anticipated motivation, nothing can stop that person from realizing and achieving his dream. This was one of the lessons that Santiago learned throughout his journey. This helped me realize that in order for me to achieve my goal which is succeeding in my academics at San Jose State University, I must have some motivation and desire. The alchemist brings up one common theme throughout the whole book, and that is we all have a personal legend that we should follow. A personal legend is basically what we are meant to accomplish in life, it is the personal calling of each and every individual. Almost all of the characters in the story had a personal legend that they either followed or decided to leave behind. The characters that didn't follow their personal legend regretted it and the ones that did were rewarded for their hard work and determination. Following your personal legend brings up problems that most people don't have to face, but people do follow their personal legends for the end results.…

It is not about the treasure – it never was. In Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, Santiago completes a journey of self-discovery in search of treasure buried at the Pyramids (Coelho, 3-167), but that does not mean his core wish is a materialistic objective. In any story, the want is the goal a protagonist is pursuing, and this goal “gives the plot direction” (Cowgill, 39). However, a character’s need, which is not necessarily the same as his want, is “an unconscious, inner force that compels a character to act without understanding the real reasons why” (Cowgill, 39).…

It has been said many times throughout human history that, “the eyes are the windows to the soul.” Paulo Coelho once again brought up this philosophy in his novel The Alchemist, though it can be said that he added more detail to the idea. Coelho is trying to portray that one can get a sense of an individual’s nature just by glancing at their eyes. One look and it will be determined whether you are confident or insecure, honest or false, and even strong or weak. In the novel, two characters, Santiago and the Alchemist, are venturing through a war torn desert.…
