In an ideal society, access to education would be portrayed as a top priority. All individuals with the desire to further pursue their education would have the necessary resources to do so. Unfortunately, this is not how societies ideals have been structured. Instead, the younger generation associates education as an unnecessary expense. This ideal fluctuates the vision set by sociologists like Marx/Engels, and Durkheim to achieve a good society, and limits upward mobility. According to Durkheim, “Public education would be a first step that allowed for the equality of opportunity” (comments from the labor of division 2). We can also note, that most sociologist agree that education plays a vital role to the advancement of society, but disagree on the numerous different approaches to achieve this. One item that can be proven is an educated society creates a more economically stable society.
It is no surprise that lower income students typically do not have the same resources available to them compared to individuals in the middle class. In Annette Lareau’s Invisible Inequality she states, “Working-class and poor parents’ conceptions of

Instead, this failure can be explained through the “Social Imagination” which is defined as a “quality of mind that allows people to see the intersection. In order to achieve greatness and try to improve a living situation, one must understand the social forces affecting our life” and unfortunately, this is not possible because the scarcity of educated individuals limits the amount of what can be seen and understood from a sociological perspective. Therefore, with a lack of bases as to why a horrible cycle keeps occurring no one is able to see their way out of the cycle, allowing it to reoccur over and over
