Annemarie's Short Story Of The Great-Aunt Birte

At the beginning of this section, Annemarie confronts her uncle about lying to her. She knows that her Great-Aunt Birte was not in that casket, and she knew that she did not have a Great-Aunt Birte.

Later that night, the “family” of Great-Aunt Birte arrived. As people came into the house and sat down without saying anything, Mrs.Johansen called Ellen to go outside. Peter and the Rosens showed up and so did the soldiers. They came beating on the door asking for a reason that so many people were there at midnight. They seemed suspicious but finally left. Peter opened the book of Psalms and read a poem. Annemarie starts thinking about the words in it and questions how somebody could number the stars one by one. Peter opened the casket and
