Anne was sent to the westerbork camp for Jews. Anne and her family didn’t turn themselves in voluntarily, so their punishment was being assigned to the punishment block. Here, Anne was separated from her father. In the punishment block, Anne had to open up batteries by pounding them with a hammer (annefrank.org.) This was extremely toxic; her health declined significantly.
Anne was then transferred to Auschwitz, this was known to be one of the most inhuman concentration camps during the holocaust. When Anne arrived at the camp they had to evaluate her. The Nazi Officers took the elderly, the young children, and anyone who was sick so they could gas them. Fortunately, Anne wasn’t chosen to be put into the gassing chamber. She worked in Auschwitz under terrible conditions, this is where her mother died.
Bergen-Belsen was where Anne went next. The conditions were terrible and Anne grew weak. The train ride lasted 3 days, Anne was given no food or drink. When Anne and her sister arrived at Bergen-Belsen, the camp was overcrowded, so they were presented with tents to sleep in. After the arrival of a tremendous storm, the tents were destroyed and Anne and her sister had to share an already crowded room so that they could sleep (annefrank.org.) The camp supplied little food for Anne and it was overcome with disease. Both Anne and her sister got Typhus. Unfortunately, they both died just before the camp was
