How would you feel if you weren’t allowed to make any noise during the day and only use the restroom at night? Some people have even experienced this at young ages of 13. This event was called the Holocaust, which took place from 1933 to 1945. During the Holocaust some Jews went into hiding before they were caught to be killed (Introduction to the Holocaust). Specifically, the Van Daans and the Franks, consisting of 8 people, came together to go into hiding in the Secret Annex. One of the people who went into the hideout was Anne Frank. Anne Frank’s diary is the main resource where people today find information about this tragic event. Anne received this diary from her dad for her birthday and day by day she wrote entries recording what was …show more content…
Van Daan his name in real life was Peter Van Pels though he was named Peter Van Daan in the play. Including the name change of Peter in the play, the events and actions Peter makes in Act 2, Scene 2, are not relevant to his personality and are not historically accurate. To start off, Peter is described as a laid-back boy in Anne’s diary, though the play suggests he is more formal when he dresses up in nice clothes. In the play it states, “In his room Peter is sitting before the mirror, smoothing his hair. As the scene goes on, he puts on his tie, brushes his coat and puts it on, preparing himself meticulously for a visit from Anne” (The Diary of Anne Frank ). As you can tell before Anne comes to Peter’s room he wants to look nice though comparing this to Anne’s real diary entry she writes,”Last night at eight I was sitting with Peter on his divan and it wasn't long before he put an arm around me. (Since it was Saturday, he wasn't wearing his overalls)” (The Diary of Anne Frank). From this you can see that Peter is more laid back just with overalls instead of nicer clothes. Moving forward, when Anne describes Peter she states that, “He is a shy, awkward boy of sixteen.” Anne also tells Mr.Frank, “After you’ve sat still all day and hardly moved, you’ve got to have some

The play, The Diary of Anne Frank shows a theme that causes the readers to reflect less on the main character Anne herself and highlights the effect her words had on others. The theme of this play is to not focus on the negative side of a situation and focus on the positive. Anne shows this at the end of Act ll, lines 1372 and 1373 when she writes her last words in her journal. She writes "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." By saying this, Anne is showing the theme by displaying how after everything that has happened, she still believes people are good at heart.…

One of the best literary works of art, to come out of the atrocities of the Third Reich, is by far in my opinion, "Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank. The Diary is, without doubt, a singular accomplishment. Its lucidity, honesty, and peircing insight are heartrendering enough to make ones self, look inwards. I was thirteen when I first read her Diary, and it opened my eyes, a direct link, to how it was for a young girl, just like myself, to go through something entirely different, an environmental change and upheavel, to be outcasts in your own country.…
