Anne Frank: The Degradation Of Human Spirit

Improved Essays
Eleanor Roosevelt once said that Annes Frank’s story made her “intimately and shockingly aware of war’s greatest evil -- the degradation of human spirit. At the same time, Anne Frank’s diary makes it poignantly clear the ultimate shining nobility of that spirit.” Anne Frank’s diary shows the degradation of the human spirit in many ways. First, the people living in the secret annex are constantly fearing that the Nazis are going to capture them and bring them to a concentration camp. They are not able to enjoy life because they are always on the lookout for The Green Police. They have to stay quiet from eight A.M to six P.M every weekday. This can cause the characters in the play to feel extremely lonely; thus, this can show the degradation

Melissa Müller’s text Anne Frank: The Biography, proves that Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett’s play The Diary of Anne Frank is unjustified in using dramatic license because it makes the reader confused on the role of the resistance, he or she loses the actual account of the arrest, and it also removes the feelings of the gestapo. Miep was not arrested in the annex, which questions the reader why. In the play Miep was in the country.…

Third, after reading the diary, it is clear that it contains much more ELA content than historic content. The way Anne uses figurative language, like on page 115, when she writes “Meanwhile, we are cut off by the great dark mass, which will not let us go upwards, but which stands to us as an impenetrable wall;” which shows how well she writes. There is also the fact that there is little Holocaust or WWII content, only being in the book as periodic updates instead of the focus, which, when educating about something like history, is important. Another example of Anne’s writing, which is on page 267, when she states that “A voice sobs within me: ‘There you are, that’s what’s become of you: you’re uncharitable, you look supercilious and peevish, people dislike you and all because you won’t listen to the advice given to you by your own better half.”, which shows her advanced vocabulary and writing, which can teach children about literary systems and word usage, rather than the history of…

The representation of leadership stems from positive and sedative social interaction, and the act of achieving something for the greater good, which is displayed by Mr. Frank in the drama, “The Diary of Anne Frank” by Robert Hackett and Frances Goodrich.
