She was born into one of the worst possible situations, yet she said, “In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can 't build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery and death.” She did not blame the Nazis. She was being optimistic because she knew that being pessimistic and being depressed will not help her in any way- it would only make her situation worse. Even though she was in the worst situation, she still held on to her beliefs and kept her mind in a positive place. “Circumstances don’t create emotions, our thoughts about them do,” ( ). There are people who live in a nice houses, make six figures, have a family, etc and are absolutely miserable. On the other hand, there are people who are poor, but happy, and there are people who would look at the rich people and say “if I had all of that money, I would be happy”. I’ve always had a normal life until my sophomore year in high school I was told that my older brother, Mario, was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer. All of these events took a toll on my emotional and mental well being. I could never concentrate on my work. My grades plummeted, my friends worried and I became disconnected and distant with the world, trapped in my own mind. I had two options- to either let myself go into a never-ending swirl of depression or rise above and find myself. I realized that every decision you make, big or small, no matter what the circumstances are, impacts your future. So I got up and changed. I realized that I loved kids and supported education reformation. I learned the most from hands on learning, not reading something and memorizing. So I started an Elementary robotics program and started 8 robotics teams in all 4 of my district 's elementary schools. The program was approved by the Board of Education and took off. Each school had meetings with high school mentors until their competition where all 4 schools competed for first place. Although it was a lot of work, it was worth it because the students had fun and learned a lot. Watching the students grow and learn about engineering, how to work together, and growing into mature students was the most fulfilling experience I’ve ever been through.
