Anne Frank Remembered was one book I was sure to never forget. It was an overwhelming story filled with sadness and injustice that had led to death of Anne Frank , and the existence of her diary. For the first time I really understood the power selfless acts could have on lives. In Anne Frank's diary one person stood out that was Hermine “Miep” Gies. Anne Franks Dairy not being lost can be contributed to Miep, a very brave woman who helped the Frank family hide from the Nazis. Gies risked her own life to keep the lives of others safe. It was Miep Gies with husband, Jan, and several coworkers that risked everything to help the Amsterdam Jews hide during the invasion.. She was placed with the Nieuwenburg family just until she regain her strength. The family became fond of her an nicknamed her Miep. Her stay was suppose to be three months but, she stayed moving with them to Amsterdam. At age 18 she finished her education and got a job in the office of a textile company, until she was laid off. Many months of unemployment went by when a neighbor alerted Miep of a position at, a company that provided the ingredients for making jam. She interviewed with Otto Frank, that had fled Germany due to Nazi oppression of the Jews . Miep met a nice young man Jan Gies, they courted for years ,but couldn't afford to get married or find housing. In the spring of 1940, the Nazis invaded the Netherlands and Miep was ordered to return to ,Vienna. Miep wrote a letter to the Queen in 1939 in an attempt to attain Dutch nationality. It was Mieps uncle who had connections in the Viennese civil service, that was able to obtain her birth certificate. Miep and Jan wed on July 16, 1941, with the Frank family in attendance. June of 1942, situation for the Jews had reached a climax, so Otto decided it was time to go into hiding in the secret annex of their office
