Anne Frank was in hiding for two years. One theme of Anne Frank is people need a sense of purpose in their lives. Although some people choose to simply go with the flow of life, without purpose, people tend to give up. Mr. Frank comes back from the concentration camp. Then he and Miep, one of the family’s protectors, have a conversation about his life in the future without his family. After coming home from Auschwitz, Mr. Frank did not know what to do with his life. His family was everything to him and he lost them all (pg. 488). When Miep gave him Anne’s diary, Mr. Frank found his new purpose. He dedicated his time to sorting through, and publishing her diary so the world would know Anne’s story. “I’m going to study art and music.”
