In the play Anne does not take to kindly to her mother's presence and does not like her as much as her father. Eventually she is able to get along with her mother near the end of the play. On the other hand, Elie never really got to have a relationship with his mother because they are separated when they are taken to the concentration camp. Both the stories have different reasons for the mother and child relationship, but they use this to help the reader understand the story.
The characters relationship with their father is quite the same in both topics. In the play Anne has a great relationship with her father and does not get along with her mother very much. In the play Anne has a nightmare and her mother tries to comfort her Anne does not want her to and calls for her father. On the other hand, Elie loses his mother and is with his father throughout most of the story and eventually has to take care of him.
