Anne Frank Diary Of A Young Girl Analysis

Decent Essays
The most surprising, interesting or useful piece of information learned through reading Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Eleanor Roosevelt was the difference between life in the Secret Annexe and life today. Firstly, the members of the secret annex did not get the pleasure of three meals a day unlike most people today. For example, Anne states, “We’re going to be hungry, but anything is better than being discovered” (240). Secondly, the members of the secret annexe had to be very quite to avoid being heard. To illustrate, Mrs. Van Daan states, “We must behave like soldiers” (203). Lastly, the members of the secret annexe go two years without going outside. The Diary of Anne Frank, by Francis Goodrich and Albert Hackett, parallels to “Shooting Attack on Paris Newspaper,” by Tara Fowler and Peter Mikelbank, showing hope and strength in dire circumstances through the unity of victims in suffering, the ability to stay true to one’s self, and the determination to survive oppression. The citizens of Paris and the occupants of the annex unite in suffering, enabling the reader to see the strength it provides for them. After the shooting of 12 people at the magazine offices of Charlie Hebdo, demonstrators crowd the streets of Paris as they stand together to support and grieve with each other. President Francis Hollande declares a day of mourning and states: “We must realize our best weapon is unity…”…

Setting is important to the “Diary of Anne Frank,” because setting sets the mood of the story, like the setting in this story takes place in 1945. In fact, Anne Frank and her family were forced into hiding during this time at Mr. Franks old business place. “Our hiding place was to be upstairs in the building where Father used to have his business”(Goodrich and Hackett 704). This quote shows the setting of where the Franks, and some of their close friends were to hid during World War II. Also, the country taking place in the story is Amsterdam, Netherlands, were the country was in bad needs.…

One of the many themes present in this version of The Diary of Anne Frank, is when everything else is taken away from you, you can still have your faith to rely on. This theme is carried out/shown all throughout the play, most notably when the families are celebrating Hanukkah. An example of this theme is when Mr. Frank is giving the prayer, “May these lights remind us that we should ever look to God, whence cometh our help” (Goodrich 315). The celebration of Hanukkah is one of the many symbols of Judaism and the Jews. Even though the reason the families are in hiding is because of their beliefs, they still put their faith into it during these harsh times.…

My favourite actress in the play was the main character, Anne Frank. She was spectacularly portrayed in an inspiring and uplifting way by Sara Farb. Whether she was acting out the childish girl we first met or the increasingly self-conscious young woman two years later, Sara Farb was effectively able to convey Anne because she made me believe she is actually going through whatever the character is going through both physically and mentally. The performances that most often thrill me are those where instinct and technique are both in perfect balance. Sara was flamboyant in her captivating acting, and was able to transform feeling into thought and words.…
