She spent in upwards of two years there it was cramped on had an infestation of rats and mice Anne never complained about the awful living conditions that she had to face every day. Anne often told herself things that would cheer her up, she would say things like "I can shake off anything as long as I write" (Goodrich and Hackett). Anne's family could not go outside the grocery store and go get food they had to have help. A young Dutch woman by the name of Miep Gies gave up her own ration book so that the frank family could have a simple meal. The food was no five star dining it was often rotting food. Although, Anne has always been grateful just to have a simple potato or a slice of bread. Anne could not go outside and release her energy that she has been building up throughout the day, so she would dance and play games with her family to make the most of the situation that she was in. Her journal will teach future generations about the holocaust and what life was like every day living in fear that you could wake up and be taken away to a dreadful concentration camp at any time.
